I am entering my 28th year as a professional educator. In that time I have taught a range of subjects from elementary mathematics, science and history to a list that also includes 7th grade science, Drama, 8th grade English, Upper School history, algebra and even Physical Education. Throughout my career I have tutored my students after school, before school and even students from other school on the weekends and during the summer months. This Summer I decided to pursue more tutoring as I find it more rewarding to work one-on-one with a student.
During my time as a teacher I finished my Masters of Science in Education from one of the most recognized Graduate schools in New York City. I have also published my thoughts on Imagination and Writing through MIT Press.
I find it rewarding to show my students that they can learn to write and write well. Writing is a difficult skill: after all out ancestors had learned to smelt metal from ore thousands of years before inventing writing. Unlocking a young writer's imagination is the key to the first step. Once that portal is crossed pen is more readily brought to paper. It is my goal to encourage and coach each of my pupils to put in their best effort.
If anything about my profile has sparked an interest I encourage you to write. I am always looking for the best possible students to work with. I will only take on students who want to succeed, even if they feel discouraged at this time, they should be willing to give their best during the time we spend honing their academic skill sets. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a part time and then full time Physical Education teacher for the past 12 years. During the last four of those years I took on the role of overseeing and managing the Fitness Center at one of New Jersey's oldest Independent Schools. While there I assisted athletes and students in developing appropriate work outs to fit their goals and physiques. This has been more than a passion of mine as I went on to study under Jim DeFranco and earn my certification from him as a Physical Preparation Specialist. I have also worked with Kyle Newell of Newell Strength Gym.
I have studied 'Functional Movement' for over a decade. During that time I taught Physical Education to students from 4 years-old to 16 years-old. I have graduate credits in physical education and study physiology as a hobby on my spare time. Living longer and feeling better about yourself makes for a more productive and positive student and that is what I seek in my pupils.
I graduated from one of New York City's most prestigious schools. Almost every professor stressed the need to frame curriculum to support study skills. As a teacher and grade level advisor I created a Study Skills course that was highly successful. While teaching all of my classes I embed study skills and organization skills into my lessons to enable students to reach success.
