About Sean

I decided that I wanted to be a teacher when I was very young. I learned to read earlier than most and ever since I have spent the majority of my free time with my nose in a book. For this reason it came as a shock to me when I started to realize that many of the other students at school did not feel the same way. I was always confused by why so many people thought that books were a waste of time. At their worst books are a great source of entertainment and at their best they are immaculate works of art. Increasingly nowadays, however, they are ignored and passed over in favor of other forms of entertainment, such as television and video games. I decided to be a teacher so that I could try to show the next generation the way that I see books. To help them learn to enjoy getting lost in other worlds and other people's stories.

Currently I am a Junior at Rider University where I dual major in Secondary Education and English. In addition to this I am a member of the Baccalaureate Honors Program, I maintain a GPA of 3.7, and have been on the Dean's List in all four of the semesters that I have completed so far. As you may have guessed by now, when I'm not at school I spend a lot of my time reading, but my other hobbies include spending time with my friends and family, doing martial arts, and playing video games. I have worked as a tutor before, both privately and in my University's tutoring center. During this time I have tutored in History, Science, Math, Spanish, and English, but my primary focus remains on English.

I learned to read when I was four years old and ever since then it is rare for me to go a single day without taking the time to enjoy a good book, but my reading habits go far beyond simply reading for pleasure. There is nothing I love more than breaking down literary works in order to get a more complete understanding of the authors intentions. I maintained all A's in English through high school and so far in college I have competed several 300 level courses even though they are not recommended for students my age. I chose to take them simply because I wanted to learn what they had to offer and even though they were extremely challenging I have received all A's with the exception of a single B+. On the SATs I scored a 690 in reading and a 640 in math, both about 200 points above national averages, putting me in the top 7% of students in the country.

If you have any sort of trouble with reading comprehension, critical reading, or writing please do not hesitate to contact me, I'd love to help in any way that I can!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
