In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I played basketball as a child until I was in 8th grade. After that I continued to watch the sport on tv and attend games. During my time at USC I was required to take a course on physical education. There I taught basketball to a group of students with guidance from the Sparks program.
In college and gradute school, I took many classes that prepared me to get get a job and decide on a career. Now I teach a course at an aftercare program teaching students how to choose classes in high school and college that can help them succeed and get a job in the career of their choice. In March 2012, I put together a career fair consisting of 10 various men and women who hold differnt jobs in various careers. This was a great way for the students to get to learn about a variety of careers and what jobs they can hold in that career.
I currently sub at a private school for students with language learning differences and a charter school in Hamilton, NJ. I also work at an aftercare program helping K-3rd graders with their homework. In addition to helping students with their homework I teach K-8th graders about being healthy and giving back to the community. I also have a masters in teaching from USC and student taught in a 1st and 5th grade classroom.
I have played golf since I was a young child. I grew up with a father and grandparent who golfed all the time. I also taught students golf at a created driving range at a few day camps. I am also qualified to teach mini golf.
I have played lacrosse since I was in 3rd grade. In high school I played on a varsity lacrosse team for four years and I took many camps to strengthen my skills. I also have experience teaching at a lacrosse camp.
During undergraduate, I minored in marketing and held various marketing jobs including having various tasks to complete with various advertising companies.
At the various jobs I've worked, especially in the real estate and advertising offices, I used Publisher to create pamphlets. I currently work at a school where I am required to use Publisher daily to create playbills and other materials for the musicals and plays.
My high school made us take two classes in public speaking and I gave numerous speaches and presentations in both high school and college. As a business major during my undergraduate years, I also took many more public speaking courses and was require to give presentations to working professionals.
I taught religion classes two summers in a row to 7th and 8th graders. This course was taught over the span of two weeks meaning the children had to learn everything they would learn in a year in two weeks. As a result, some activities were cut short and chapters were condensed, but the children learned a lot and had fun in the process. I also attend a Catholic and/or Christian church every Sunday morning.
As a young child, I took three study skills classes. I also have taught children skills which can help them become more organized so that they have an easier time keeping track of their materials making it easier for them to study. I have given students tips about using their time wisely when studying for tests.
