I have worked in education at multiple levels since 1985. I am transitioning from Florida where I directed a 350 student Preschool, and taught separate class Special Education, as well as Kindergarten. I have also worked with Mild-multi Disabilities and Intensive Reading.
I have a knack for breaking information down and explaining it so that my students can understand it at their level. I work in multiple modalities. I spent 3 years working as a Behavioral Assistant to students with Autism, transitioning students from Special Education into General Education environments. If you've tried everything else, try me. Ms. G. has only met with my son a few times so far, but she has already made a big difference in my son's entire outlook. She has been able to reach him, and made him realize that he really is capable. She gets him to organize his thoughts, ideas, and research materials, and concisely and precisely put them into a written work. We will continue to see her, maybe through college! She is so kind and caring, my son even looks forward to her sessions and plans in advance what he wants to work on - this has never happened before. We are very grateful for her patience and interest, and highly recommend her.
We assessed both group and individualized approaches with industry recognized companies, as well as private tutors. To our good fortune, we identified Janet G., and following a phone screen, interview and meeting with our son, we hired Janet. Within the first week, Janet created an assessment plan and was very engaged in understanding our son's strengths, weaknesses, likes, and where he struggles. Janet discussed various approaches and learning techniques with us, laid out her plan and then quickly became well acquainted with our son. After the very first lesson, our son invited Janet to be a "special guest" at his next birthday party. Testimony to her easy spirit and wonderful demeanor!
Janet has been working diligently with our son several times a week since, and has been greatly successful in getting him to “re-learn” the basics and gain confidence to persevere though the more challenging skills. Our son has gained a tremendous amount of self esteem as he has now begun to read on his own!
We cannot thank Janet enough, and although we know there is still more work to be done, we couldn’t have achieved this much already without Janet’s exceptional talents and myriad of experiences that she draws upon. We highly recommend Janet as she has immeasurable creativity, patience and integrity. Additionally, Janet has been the key contributor to our son’s new favorite pastime…reading!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received my certification in the state of Florida, active through 2012. I just left my position to move to NJ. Prior to that I was employed at Freedom Elementary, (which has been an A school for the past 5 years) where I taught 3-5th Special Ed. and more recently, kindergarten.
I currently hold a NJ standard cert. in Reading with an endorsement for P-3 pending.
My Master's is in Reading from Stetson University in Deland, Fl.In addition, I have taken and passed New Jersey's Praxis II for Teacher of Reading.
My public speaking background is a combination of classroom and professional knowledge. My degrees are in business and education, both of which required extensive presentation. My professional background includes teaching, as well as directing a private school with 350 students. As such, not only did I have to frequently present to my staff, peers, and potential clients, but I regularly presented before a packed audience of parents and extended family members from my community.
I have my M.Ed. in Reading. In addition, I've worked with Intensive Reading 6-8 grade and taught Special Ed in the Florida Public School system. My husband retired USA bringing us to Pemberton, NJ.
