Criminal Justice

I earned my JD from Georgetown Law, where I took several courses in Criminal Justice. In addition, prior to law school, I investigated police misconduct in NYC, primarily looking into Fourth Amendment violations against civilians. Finally, as an adjunct instructor, I have taught a pre-law course to undergraduates which focuses heavily on Criminal Justice.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

As a recent law school graduate, I engaged in debate as part of the mock trial team in addition to consistently presenting arguments, on-the-spot, in 100-plus student classes. In college, I had to present and orally argue my honors senior thesis in various forums, all in front academics who would pose intellectually challenging questions to which I would have to respond to defend my thesis. Finally, I was captain of the debate team in high school. With all this experience, I can teach all the tricks of the trade of public speaking and debating. In addition, when requested, I work with students in drafting speeches they are to present and in assisting students who debate in strengthening their arguments. In all, I create a comfortable environment, where students build confidence in their speaking skills and, ultimately, learn to how to capture an audience's attention.

Spanish,

Spanish

I have always had a natural knack for Spanish. In high school, I earned an 800 on the SAT Spanish Subject exam, and I received a 5 on the AP Spanish exam. From there, I moved on to college, where I minored in Spanish, exploring not just its grammar and verb tenses but also the beauty of its literature -- specifically Latin American literature. I loved reading anything by Julio Cortazar and just soaked it up. After graduating from college, I used my Spanish to assist in job-related scenarios where an individual could only speak Spanish and not English. However, I have been tutoring Spanish since I was a Junior in high school, helping out freshman. I then tutored fellow college students who were in the low-level and intermediate classes. From there, I have continued to tutor Spanish privately when the opportunity arises. I most enjoy tutoring introductory Spanish at this point because, after a few weeks, watching a student simply begin to absorb the essence of an entirely new language he or she had no clue about earlier is just simply amazing to watch.

My specialty in tutoring is assisting college and graduate school applicants in crafting their personal statements, as well as working with them to improve their resumes and, when necessary, helping them find the institutions most suitable for them to which they may consider applying. I formerly served as a college admissions officer, rendering decisions on admittance. From this experience, combined with my B.A. in English with highest honors, I bring unique insight to the application process, especially in how to capture the essence of the personal statement to accord with what higher institutions of higher education are truly looking for when evaluating the merits of these statements. Believe it or not, an exceptional personal statement can swing pendulum from denying or waitlisting an application, to deeming it, and the candidate behind the statement, worthy of admission. Overall, crafting the personal statement is a unique writing endeavor. Guided by my experience, I will collaborate with you, every step of the way, to produce a personal statement, along with the additional elements of the application, that is of superior quality that distinctly stands out from the rest of applicant pool.

I am able to equip students with all the necessary skills -- from pre-writing development through fluidity and grammatical accuracy of the final product -- in crafting a superior essay or research paper. I specialize in working with middle school, high school, and college students, teaching them proper essay formatting, effective development of supporting details, formation of strong body paragraphs, and how to put all the pieces together to produce a well-written and captivating overall composition. I also work with adult professionals, assisting with general proofreading, resume development, and other writing needs.

Test Preparation

Accuplacer,

Accuplacer

As a former high school Math and English teacher, I have experience teaching many of the skills on the Accuplacer and related exams. I have taught Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II, making me well-versed in all the mathematical concepts on the exams. Moreover, as an English teacher, I am equipped to assist students with enhancing reading comprehension skills and developing their capacity to identify grammatical and other mistakes within a text. Both Reading Comprehension and Revision of Writing are sections on the exams. After leaving the teaching profession, I have tutored for several years, with emphasis on Accuplacer and similarly formatted college placement exams. Of the many students with whom I have worked, I guided them all to successful results on the exams. My tutoring approach is generally as follows: I provide students with written material, identifying, outlining, and explaining all concepts within each section of the exam: Math, Reading, and Revision/Editing of Passages (labeled the "Writing" section). I then guide students through the written material, providing substantial clarification, examples, and further explanation. I distribute exercises to students to reinforce individual concept mastery, while integrating an extensive number of actual exam questions for students to practice application. I review all exam questions with students, working with them to understand errors and continue to build off of correct responses. As we work through each section, I am extremely perceptive to any struggles a student may encounter. I address these struggles immediately, creating materials and exercises particularly for that student to target and remedy the issue. In addition, as I also specialize in tutoring high school and college writing, I prepare students for the essay portion of the exams, teaching them how to form a strong and clear argument, identify, develop, and analyze supporting details/evidence, and ultimately craft an essay that, overall, is well-written, smooth in its flow, lacks grammat
College Counseling,

College Counseling

As a former high school Math and English teacher, I have experience teaching many of the skills on the PRAXIS Core exam. I have taught Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II, making me well-versed in all the mathematical concepts on the exam. Moreover, as a former English teacher, I am equipped to assist students with enhancing reading comprehension skills and developing their capacity to identify grammatical and other mistakes within a text. All of these skills are tested on the PRAXIS Core, divided into an individual Math section, Reading section, and Writing section. The Writing section requires both the revision of errors within a text and the composition of an essay. For several years, I have guided many students to success on all sections of the PRAXIS Core. I provide students with written material, identifying, outlining, and explaining all concepts within each section of the exam. I guide students through the written material, providing substantial clarification, examples, and further explanation. I address these struggles immediately, creating materials and exercises for that specific student to target and remedy the concept(s) with which he or she finds challenging. In addition, as I also specialize in tutoring high school and college writing, I prepare students for the essay portion of Writing section, teaching them how to draft both an argumentative essay and an informative/explanatory essay. In both instances, I focus on clarity, use and development of supporting details/evidence, thoughtful analysis, and ultimately producing an essay that, overall, is well-written, smooth in its flow, lacks gramm
PSAT,

PSAT

I have tutored countless students to success on all sections of the SAT exam. In addition, I work with high school students in preparation for the PSAT. For each section of the exam, I provide students with written materials that explain the concepts they will encounter. I then guide students through these materials, providing repeated exercises on each concept to ensure comprehension. I simultaneously present students with numerous, actual PSAT questions to practice application. I pay very close attention to where my students struggle, and I develop individualized exercises to target and remedy those struggles, on-the-spot. Of the many students whom I have tutored for the PSAT, all have been well-prepared and reached or surpassed their target score.
Regents,

Regents

Within the last two years, I have primarily tutored 10-12 students for their NYS Regents exams. All were in high school. Most students struggled in Math, so I tutored them in Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra based on materials I composed myself. I used pre-released tests to work through them with students, struggling with reading comprehension and basic writing. I taught students who struggled in Spanish what they would need to know for the exam. And, finally, for students who struggled with Chemistry, I accessed my own 12-year-old high school Chemistry notes to refresh my memory and work with these students. Because most students needed help on Math, I would often do group sessions. All students I've tutored for the NYS Regents in the last two years have passed the section(s) of the exam on which we worked together.
SAT Math,

With all students I tutor, I provide them with clear written materials that explain all concepts they may encounter on the SAT Math section. I then guide students through each of these concepts, step-by-step, providing repeated exercises for reinforcement. I simultaneously integrate countless, actual SAT questions from the exam's Math section, to work toward mastery of application. I am attentive to student weaknesses, and I constantly develop additional materials, tailored to the student, to target and remedy those weaknesses. Over the years, I have tutored over 75 students on the SAT Math. After working with me, each of these students has been well-prepared to tackle the Math section, reaching his or her target score or higher.

I am an alumnus of Teach for America where I taught both high school English and Math. In addition, I have been privately tutoring SAT Critical Reading for several years. With all students I tutor, I teach them how to effectively and efficiently read and process the passages, as well as take relevant shorthand notes for comprehension. I also teach test-taking techniques, as the SAT exam repeatedly tests the same skills. Exposing students to the various question types and what the test-makers are ultimately testing, enables my accurately and efficiently respond to the questions they encounter.

I taught ESL to adult students for seven years. I have also tutored many students for the TOEFL exam, using a variety of resources for practice and identifying student struggles to turn them into successes. Practice and exposure extensive exposure to the exam prompts and questions, sharpens the mind and is valuable preparation. I'm familiar with each section of the exam, and I know certain test-taking techniques to to reach the proper answer, as the TOEFL regularly recycles and reuses many of the concepts it has repeatedly tested on previous exams. Each student I have tutored for the TOEFL has scored well to exceptionally well, which makes me proud of them and the work we put in together.

Wow! The best session I've ever had with a writing tutor. Daniel really cares and he is incredibly helpful. He works with you as you write your essay, is attentive to all your ideas, and helps you find ways to make the essay sound good. His final proofreading and comments after editing are very beneficial. If you need to write an essay and want a clean, clear, and just purely excellent final product, work with Daniel! He's awesome!

Daniel is an amazing tutor!

Daniel is an amazing tutor. You won’t find anyone better. He worked with me on my essays, and not only did my essays turn out to be stellar, I learned from him how to become a better writer. Thanks, Daniel!

Excellent.

Daniel is possibly the best tutor I have ever worked with on Wyzant. He is attentive, thoughtful, incredibly smart, and a fantastic communicator. He helped me build and shape my paper for graduate school. He was actively involved in the process, and without him, I never would have been able to put together the excellent paper I now have. Daniel tutors many subjects. But, if you can work with him on your writing (like I did), do it. There’s no one better.

He puts in full effort, like no other

Daniel works incredibly hard to ensure that I understand every concept we are reviewing. His explanations are clear and extraordinarily helpful. He is incredibly patient, and he is very generous with his time. He also makes you feel really comfortable when working with him, and he puts in full effort, like no other, every single time. I really lucked out finding him, and I recommend him to anyone.
