I am a veteran teacher and tutor with over 31 years of teaching experience. I have worked in both private and public schools with students in grades Pre-k to Grade 3. I have a masters degree in Special education and have worked with regular and special needs students in a mainstreamed classroom. In addition, I have experience utilizing IEPs to modify instruction for special needs students. Some of the special needs students I have worked with were classified as ADD,ADHD, Communication Impaired, as well as, having a Specific Learning Disability. My teaching and learning methods are based on the individual needs of each student. I am a dedicated, creative, hard working individual who has a genuine passion for teaching and learning. Furthermore, I believe all students can learn if given the chance and the proper instruction that matches their learning style. It gives me great joy to see a struggling child succeed. Although I have used both whole and small group instruction, one on one instruction I feel is always the best way to learn. I would love to help your child achieve success by becoming your child's tutor.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Reading is the process of deciphering words to comprehend the meaning of written passages. In addition, reading comprehension involves finding the main idea, finding supporting details, recognizing the story sequence, as well as, making connections to the text, inferring or predicting what will happen next and drawing conclusions. Like math, reading is a subject that builds on previous knowledge. At the K level children have simple repetitive text and illustrations to help in interpreting the written word., while at the third grade level there are few illustrations and longer text. I have taught reading to grades K-3 for over 31 years.
