One of the basic principles of good ESOL teaching is making sure that a student CAN succeed.
• How to encourage students to learn and look forward to English language lessons?
• How to procure their best work and keep them eager and happy doing it?
I am a TEFL/TESOL ESL teacher, certified through the International TEFL Academy and INTESOL Worldwide Organization. I teach American English grammar, phonetics and vocabulary. Using various techniques, I focus attention on pronunciation and accent reduction which are so vital for successful communication. My goal is to help students accomplish this and have confidence when speaking. One of my techniques I use is teaching students how to listen to the spoken word to gain better pronunciation. Over time, students learn to differentiate the native speaker from the non-native speaker in order to mirror only the best pronunciation. Also, where possible, I like to do field trips to museums and shopping malls or local historical sights as a practical way for students to gain confidence with language learning; here they integrate themselves into daily life situations and get a chance to practice English in a coached setting as they interact with others.
Self-esteem is very key to language learning. As an ESL teacher, I encourage students to share opinions and feelings about daily life in the States. I focus my teaching on recognizing where blocks to learning may have developed and help them to offset those blocks with a personalized approach along with appropriate techniques to overcome them. As an additional benefit, due to 25 years of extensive working experience in Wall Street’s financial sector, I also coach students on how to adapt to the American working environment and how to ease themselves into its culture. Previously, I’ve helped students with job application procedures as well as coaching for successful job interviewing.
As an ESL teacher, it's a privilege to teach those who wish to learn English at almost any level -- beginner, intermediate or advanced -- to help them gain skill, confidence and improve their quality of life through good English language communication. One of the basic principles of good ESOL teaching is making sure that a student CAN succeed.

I am a Brazilian and I have lived here in the U.S. for 6 years and am learning English. Eileen is the best tutor I've had the pleasure of knowing, sensitive, intelligent, patient, firm, and very loving . She is also a master at teaching English with wisdom and knowledge! In my native language (Portuguese), I'd say she's wonderful! You exceeded my expectations in every way. Thank you!
I am an international student who studies in America. I am so happy to have Eileen as my tutor because she really gives me a lot of help. We meet every Sunday and she gives me help on my writing, speaking and reading. Her classes are interesting and useful. I really have learned many things so far and I am also enjoying the class time. I remember that she has given me some good phrases and expressions that I have used in my papers from school. My school works have improved too.
I could improve my English skills from the lessons with her. She is kind and tries to help students study effectively.
Eileen is a great tutor. She is so patient, responsible, and so nice to her student. She is all we love. My daughter loves her so much. She is a master at teaching English. My daughter has made a lot progress. I strongly recommend Eileen and you will know how I feel about her.
She is very gentle and my daughter likes her. She knows how to deal with students with different cultural backgrounds, that is the nicest part.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I'm a TEFL/TESOL ESL teacher, certified through the International TEFL Academy and INTESOL Worldwide Organization. I teach American English grammar, phonetics and vocabulary. I teach pronunciation for successful communication and I show students how English grammar can be learned effectively through both speaking and writing skills. Students enjoy speaking and writing about things that interest them. In this way, skills develop and improve quickly. Students have fun and enjoy lessons as they interact and respond to practical, easy to do lesson plans which help them to master the English language.
