I have a B.S. in Science & Technology/Mathematics Education, and a M.A. in Instruction & Curriculum.

I've tutored students in elementary, middle school, Algebra 1 & 2, Trigonometry, Geometry, Pre-Calculus and college. Just as in my classroom, I focus on students' conceptual understanding, modeling the rigor emphasized by the Common Core and Mathematical Practice Standards.

Why do parents consistently choose me? Because after working with me, students show and improvement in both their grades and confidence! I help students “turn their math struggles into strengths.”

Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I passed the Praxis Mathematic Content Knowledge Exam, and certified to teach K-12. Working in a K-8 school, I have to opportunity to work with students in the lower grades as a Math Intervention Coach. When working with younger students, I enjoy using manipulative to solidify their concrete thinking, then transition to abstract. Even at the younger ages, it's important for students to realize that math is about finding and creating patterns.

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I have taught Algebra 1 for the past 6 years, but have tutored students for the past 8 years. Algebra 1 is a fundamental course in mathematics as students transition from concrete to abstract mathematical reasoning. The development of algebraic thinking unfolds over a period of time. My goal is to use my experience to ease the transition, while building students' confidence to continue to be successful in math. I use manipulatives, different visuals, performance tasks and online programs to achieve results. My methods are proven as a majority of my students in middle school pass the Algebra 1 PARCC, fullining their high school graduation requirement in the 7th and 8th grade. With a BS in Mathematics, I am certified to teacher grades K through 12.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have taught Algebra 1 for the past 5 years, but have tutored students for the past 8 years. Algebra 1 is a fundamental course in mathematics as students transition from concrete to abstract mathematical reasoning, which is further developed in Algebra 2. Students will find a majority of the material from stems from Algebra 1, with more complex application. My goal is to use my experience to highlight connections between 'new' material and students' prior knowledge, while building students' confidence.
Geometry,

Geometry

Geometry focuses on the physical properties of objects, their links to algebraic concepts and its theoretical aspects. I have taught Geometry for a few years, and I see it as a great opportunity to help students understand the attributes and relationships applied in diverse contexts.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

I have taught Pre-Algebra for the past 6 years. Algebra 1 is a fundamental course in mathematics as students transition from concrete to abstract mathematical reasoning. Pre-Algebra exposes students to these foundational concepts, refining their thought process and is essential in higher math courses. My goal is to use my experience to ease the transition, while building students' confidence to continue to be successful in math. With a BS in Mathematics, I am certified to teacher grades K through 12.

The Praxis Core: Math (5733) consists of 56 questions to be completed in 85 minutes. During sessions I work with students on several practices tests and provide practice on specifics skills necessary for the tes (i.e., fraction computation, solving algebraic equations, interpreting functions, etc.). In order to guide their personal study time, I provide a list of "I Can" statements directly from ETS that explains all skill students should be fluent in. There's no need to worry. Book a session and I'll have you passing the test with flying colors!

Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

Simone G. taught me different aspects of a function, such as what a function is, and how to find out if a function is a function. I like how she provides many examples of the work, instead of just one example. If I do not understand what I am doing, she will guide me through the work until I understand. She helped to find out whether a function really is a function, and how to find the f(x).

Very Impressed

I find Simone to be extremely thorough. She would ask my daughter questions to really understand just where she is at in her thought process, how much she knows about the subject matter and how to help her. She took her back to the basics which is what she requires. Now she is building on that foundation. I am very impressed by this. She did not assume she already knew. She is taking the time to understand what it is she actually needs to succeed. My daughter has only had a few lessons but she seems to be a very, very good educator.
