About Aalok

*Online Tutoring $125/hr*

New SAT? New PSAT? No problem. I've already developed my own material!

SAT/ACT is my specialty!

[Summer ACT/SAT is now full. Now taking students for Sept ACT and Oct SAT and beyond]

*I offer customized score reports for all my ACT students. This is a powerful tool to analyze test performance, diagnose problem areas, and track progress. It's an advantage that virtually no other private tutor offers. Please inquire for more information.*

My name is Aalok and I am a full time professional tutor.
I am honored to be considered one of WyzAnt's finest (top 0.3%).
I can help students who are struggling, students who are looking to excel, and everyone else in between.

I can also help students applying to college/grad school. I'm able to help with school selection, letters of recommendation, essay/personal statement, resume, interviews, early action/decision, financial aid, athletic scholarships, and much more. You are guided each step of the way from start to finish. Space is very limited!

I strive for complete satisfaction and never charge for a session unless you are completely satisfied.

"I wish I had called you sooner." That's what I hear most often from clients/students/parents.

I won't go so far as to say I make tutoring fun, but I make sure it's engaging and meaningful. Tutoring isn't just memorization and repetitive practice drills; that's passive and wastes time. I've even worked with other tutors and educators to hone their skills and improve their teaching styles.

I have over seven years of experience working as a full time professional tutor. I have taught/tutored over 1500 students. I've taught over 700 students in a classroom setting and well over 800 students online. I've individually tutored well over 350 students. I am experienced in academic/test prep tutoring from grade school through college.

I also have experience working with students that have ADHD, dyslexia, students with IEP's, and other documented learning disabilities. I don't have formal training in specialized education, but rather successful experience. While other tutors may shy away from students who they think might be challenging to teach, I embrace these opportunities.

My experience tutoring so many subjects and exams has given me insight that lets me simplify even the most complex material. That's why I believe myself to be such an effective tutor. So whether it's SAT Math or ACT English or GMAT Argument Analysis or GRE Verbal or MCAT Physics or college level chemistry, I break the material down into simpler concepts.

Experience also allows me to be flexible. Your algebra teacher pushed the test back and you'd rather review solubility rules and titration from today's chemistry lab? No worries. Suddenly remember halfway through a physics problem that you also have a pre-calc quiz tomorrow and want to spend the rest of our session reviewing for that? You got it.

I also offer advanced math/science coaching for school competitions.

Standardized Tests:
NJ-ASK, SSAT, PSAT, SAT, SAT Subject Tests, ACT, AP courses/exams, IB courses/exams, GED, GRE, Praxis, etc. If you don't see your test here, just ask!

Academic Subjects:
Algebra 1/2, Trig, Geometry, Pre-Calc, Stats, Earth Science, Biology, Chem, Physics, English, Literature, History, Social Studies, etc. If you don't see your subject here, just ask!

Some Student Successes: 350+ points score improvement on the SAT, several 800s on the SAT and SAT subject tests, 20+ points score improvement on the GRE, 8+ points improvement on the MCAT, 30 point improvement on the Math Praxis, 34+ on the ACT (with 36's in Science, Math, and Reading), and 5's an various AP exams.

While I cannot guarantee scores like the ones above, I do promise my very best to help you get your highest score possible!

I reside in Toms River, have an office in Morganville, and also work on certain days in the Hackensack, Paramus, Bergen, and surrounding areas. I can also meet with clients at their homes, a library, or at a cafe. As my schedule allows, I can tutor students beyond 30 minutes of travel for a higher hourly rate. I also tutor extensively online and have worked with students in Maryland, Texas, Russia, London, and India.

I offer no-cost consultations (up to 30 minutes) to all students over the phone or online. Free consultations in person may only be available in Toms River or Morganville (as my schedule allows).

Education is an investment. Just an increase of 100 points on the SAT, 3 points on the ACT, or a 0.2 increase in GPA can significantly increase merit scholarship awards and dramatically raise a student's chances of being accepted to a better school. Unfortunately, far too many parents and students find this out once it's too late.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. I'm more than happy to speak with you.

"I wish I had called you sooner." Each day spent waiting is another class or lecture's worth of material that you potentially fall behind or another low quiz/test score that will only make it harder to recover from. Get in touch today to schedule your free consultation!

My cancellation policy is 24 hours in advance due to high demand (You must let me know by 6pm Thursday if you wish to cancel or change a lesson taking place on the weekend). It is best to get in touch with me as early as possible so we have time to coordinate our schedules. I can try to accommodate last minute requests, but cannot guarantee them.

Weather policy: In the event of inclement weather, I will make every reasonable effort to keep my commitments and keep on schedule. I'll notify you in advance if we need to make any changes. I just ask the same in return; please do not wait until the very last second to make a decision when it comes to weather related changes.

Travel Policy: Minimum session length or travel charge apply for travel that exceeds 30 minutes.

You worked as much as you could on your own in between lessons and didn't give up when you got stuck. Your class notes were also very organized and helped me find out exactly what we needed to focus on during each session. That "A" is very well deserved!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I hold a degree in Behavioral Neuroscience - with an extensive background in Biology, Genetics, Vertebrate Anatomy, Physiology, Neuroscience, etc.

I've taught and tutored Biology at various levels - High School Biology, SAT Subject Test Biology, AP Biology, College Biology, MCAT Biology, and even more.

In addition - I revised content for and led the launch of a newly revised AP Biology Course with a National Test Prep Company.

I have experience tutoring chemistry at both the high school, college, and graduate levels.

Tests: SAT Chem, AP Chem, MCAT Chem

College Counseling

Over the years I have worked with numerous high school students taking the SAT, ACT, and AP exams. With many of those students, I would sit down with them and look at when these exams are offered and how they line up with final exams or other activities.

I also discuss if and when a student should re-take certain standardized exams and when the best time to take certain exams would be (such as end of Junior year or early Senior year).

I also sit down with students and parents and talk about course selection, in addition to extra-curricular activities.

I spend time going over deadlines in detail and talking to them about early decision, early action, and rolling admissions. I tell my students to work on their essays and the Common Application during the summer so that once the school year starts, they have that much less to do.

In addition to that, I discuss with students which teachers and advisers they ask for letter of recommendation. I also help review essays and have helped many students put together applications and edit resumes.

I've had a number of parents tell me that I've been more helpful than their son's/daughter's guidance counselor at school.

When it comes to Genetics, I hold a degree in Behavioral Neuroscience - where I've taken many high level biology courses and labs.

Especially for genetics - I've taken Molecular Genetics, Genetics Lab I and II, and Biochemistry.

I've taught and tutored Biology at various levels - High School Biology, SAT Subject Test Biology, AP Biology, College Biology, MCAT Biology, and even more.

In addition - I revised content for and led the launch of a newly revised AP Biology Course with a National Test Prep Company.

I've had many students improve more than 20 points overall on the GRE exam. I've also had some students improve by more than 12 points in an individual section (when focusing primarily on Verbal reasoning or Quantitative Reasoning).

I have a degree in Behavioral Neuroscience, so I have the educational background for all subjects of this test.

In addition, I have over two years of experience teaching/tutoring all MCAT subjects when I worked for a national test prep company. I've taught over 1200 students in the classroom setting and tutored over 110 students one-on-one.

The first thing I identify for MCAT tutoring is if the student needs help with content, pacing, or the format of the exam. From there, I develop a customized plan to help the student bridge any weaknesses and maximize score gains.

Organic Chemistry

I have a degree in Behavioral Neuroscience, so I have the educational background for all subjects in this field.

I have helped many students with Organic Chemistry via MCAT preparation. In addition, I have also lead study groups and review sessions at Queen's College in New York for Organic Chemistry to help students prepare for the National ACS Organic Chem Exam.

Physics is the very first subject I began teaching - it is without a doubt my favorite subject. I have experience teaching physics at -

College level - Physics I and II - with or without calculus.
High School - Honors Physics and College Prep Physics along with AP Physics (both Mechanics and Electro-magnetics).

Test Prep - SAT Physics Subject Test, MCAT Physics (Medical School Entrance Exam), and AP Physics.

I've had several students get 800's on the SAT Physics Subject test and countless more get a 700+.

I have helped several students successfully prepare for the Praxis exam Reading, Writing, and Math. The Praxis is developed by ETS, which is the same organization that develops the SAT, SAT Subject Tests, and the GRE. Hence, the material across all those those exams are very similar.

I would make sure the student understood what was on the exam, the format of the exam, and general strategies for the test itself.

SAT Math

I've had several students score an 800 on the SAT Math, SAT Math I subject Test, and the SAT Math II Subject Test.

Study Skills

An integral part of academic and test-prep tutoring consists of making sure students are studying effectively. I've seen too many students study very hard but not learn anything or retain anything.

For study skills, I look to see exactly how the student seems to learn best (writing things down, visually seeing it, or simply by practicing the concept). This yields immediate results and a big boosts in confidence.

I have plenty of experience of working with high school students preparing for high school finals and AP Exams at the end of the year, in addition to working with college students prepare for exams like the GRE, MCAT, and college finals.

I have a degree in Behavioral Neuroscience, so I have taken coursework (some at advanced levels) regarding the content that is tested on this exam. I've tutored several students in the exam and similar exams. I focus on content review when it comes to the math and science sections, and focus on practice when it comes to the reading and English sections. I focus on test-taking techniques and time management strategy. From there I develop a customized plan to help the student bridge any weaknesses and maximize score gains.

High power tutor! — My son came to Aalok for help because he was stuck at 34 on the ACT. Not that it's a bad score, but it's very hard to raise that score because the difference might be just 1 or 2 questions. In a few lessons, Aalok narrowed down his weak spots and continuously drilled him on the similar type of questions from previous tests. Aalok is resourceful, insightful, and highly energized. He kept my son eng ...
