Hello! My name is Alexandra, I am a full-time science teacher. I'm a strong believer in student-centered lessons and think all questions make for great learning experiences! I received my degree in Chemistry Education from the University of Delaware. Here, I was required to take math courses up to Calculus 2 for Science. I achieved above-average grades in Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. Math and science are actually my two best friends! Upon graduation, I received both my diploma & my secondary science teaching certification. I am currently on my third year of teaching. I teach AP Chemistry & Honors Chemistry at Saint John Vianney. I began my teaching career at Toms River HS East, where I taught chemistry for two school years. I have been tutoring fourth-grade math students up to college chemistry and math students since I myself was in college. Along the way, I've learned many different tutoring approaches. I use classroom techniques, such as whiteboards, guided practice, and homework assignments, to help tutor my students. I'm excited to continue my teaching career!

Subjects

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I've taken all math subjects up to calculus two. I've passed the NY regents in algebra and trig. Math and science coincide with each other, as algebra continues to be apart of all of my college level courses.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Over the course of my study I have been using Algebra 2 in all of my classes. Algebra 2 is important and helps students to prepare for precalculus, many Algebra 2 skills are seen in the early chapters of precalculus. I've passed the NY regents in Algebra and received a 95 on the Precalculus exam, which pertains a great deal of Algebra 2 information. Currently I am teaching Algebra to 8th graders at the Bayard Middle School in their content classes and believe that I can tutor more students this subject.
Biology,

Biology

I received a passing grade in both introduction to biology 1 and introduction to biology two. I am currently learning how to teach secondary science students in education classes and field placements in Delaware. I received a 93 on the NY biology regents and have various diagram lessons based on biology.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

I am qualified to teach pre-algebra as I am taking math classes up to and including calculus two. I use step by step directions when tutoring a student in math and make sure they understand previous concepts before going on to the next because it is easy to get lost in math. I know how to cope when students get frustrated with math and I think when teaching it gradually, but progressively I can help them achieve an understanding.

Genetics,

Genetics

I've worked in heredity and development labs for almost two years now studying DNA and chromosomal diseases. I received B's in college introduction to biology classes and a B+ in heredity and development. Currently I study biochemistry where in lab we analyze fingerprints in order to determine which DNA prints match the guilty criminal's. I have now been learning genetics for a total of 6 years and have a thorough understanding of mitosis, meiosis, punnet squares, and the development of the human body.
Organic Chemistry,

Organic Chemistry

I am able to teach the naming of organic compounds, reactions, and the differences between all products of organic reactions. I've received an A in two organic chemistry labs thus far. I've tutored several classmates in organic chemistry all of which who received a grade of B or higher. Organic chemistry ties all chemistry concepts together, which is why I believe it is critical to teach students this subject early on, which I have the potential to do.
Physical Science,

Physical Science

I believe I am qualified to tutor physical science because it is the foundation of all sciences. Physical science concepts are brought up in the beginning of every science course and I feel that they are very necessary, so I have a passion to teach them. I received a 100% on the general wyzant test and feel that I can help students grasp an understanding early on as to why these theories matter to the rest of the sciences.
