Villanova University, Villanova, PA (BS Biology)
Four years ago I retired from the Campbell Soup Company after 30 years as an engineer. I earned my Standard Teaching Certificate through the NJDOE alternate program. For the past 3 years, I've been teaching 4th grade (all subjects). Beginning next year, I'll be teaching 4th - 6th grade science.
I hold a BS / Biology degree from Villanova University in addition to a K-6 Elementary and a 6-8 Middle School with Specialization in Science standard certificates.
I discovered my passion for teaching while working one-on-one with students through a reading program sponsored by Campbell's. I've carried that into my semi-retirement.
I love Science and by extension, math. It's been a central theme since grade school. Studying Biology at Villanova eventually led to a job as a chemist and to an engineer for Campbell's. I decided, that when I retired, I'd concentrate my preparation in that area. My Praxis test scores - 184/200 in general elementary and 194/200 in MS Science- were exemplary.
As a 4th grade generalist for the past 3 years, I'm intimately familiar with the NJDOE Common Core standards. I particularly emphasize the integration of two or more standards whenever I develop an individual lesson plan, whether they be math, language arts, science, or social studies.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
At the school I where I currently teach, grading is based on the mastery of NJDOE Common Core standards. Because I have students of all levels, I must be familiar with standards both above and below those of fourth grade.
Additionally, during our summer professional development, the year's curriculum is constructed around the standards. A complete familiarity with those standards is a must.
As qualifications for elementary tutoring qualifications I have a BS in Biology; 3 years teaching experience as a 4th grade generalist; a K-6 standard teaching certificate with aPRAXIS score of 186/200 (w/honors); a 6-8 standard teaching certificate with a PRAXIS score of 194/200.
For the past three years I've been rated effective as a 4th grade teacher.
Science is my favorite subject. I hold a BS in Biology from Villanova University, had a long career as an engineer in a food company, earned my Middle School Science certificate with a score of 194/200 on the NJDOE Praxis tests, and have been teaching general education for the past 3 years.
