As a summa cum laude honors graduate and now a first year medical student, I understand the value of hard work. My love for teaching grew from my experiences as a mathematics learning assistant at a JEI Learning Center. Nothing proves more rewarding to me than watching a struggling student succeed and discover a love of learning.
My tutoring focus is in both mathematics and the biological sciences -specifically in microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, physiology, evolution and general biology. These disciplines are essential coursework for students looking to major in a life science. If you are looking for a science tutor, you will be well served by one with an extensive scientific background and a mature understanding of the subject matter. I have mastered these courses not only as a student, but also as an MCAT test taker and as a successful medical school applicant!
My preferred method of teaching involves emphasizing conceptual learning. I find that if my clients understand concepts, they will more confidently tackle difficult problems and more easily recall these concepts when they revisit the given topic at a later date. I often have the student attempt to "teach" me their understanding of the given matter so that I can assess how well the student grasps the given material.
I tutor only in a public setting such as at a local library or bookstore. I have a fairly flexible schedule and will likely be able to accommodate your needs. Cancellation requires 24 hours notice. If you are interested in scheduling a tutoring session, please feel free to send me a message and together we will take your learning to the next level! Gopal is very knowledgeable on microbiology, he explains the topics well. He answered all my questions and made sure I understood the different chapters before moving forward. He was on time and very professional, I highly recommend him
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken and excelled in Algebra I during grade school, and have since taken Algebra II, Geometry, the SATs, College level Calculus and Statistics. I tutor Algebra I as a tutor at a local JEI Learning Center.
I have taken two courses in college that include a semester of Genetics and another semester of Developmental Genetics. I have also taken courses that fall in the Genetics Department at Rutgers, such as General Microbiology. I have received top grades in all courses including a B+ in genetics, A in Developmental Genetics, A in General Microbiology, and a score in the 95th percentile for the Biology MCAT subsection, which requires lots of Genetics knowledge.
I have taken in depth courses in Chemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Psychology, Biochemistry, and Physiology and have received stellar grades in all courses. I used this background to independently prepare for the MCAT, for which I have received a score in the 95th percentile. My mature understanding of the test content and my ability to diagnose poor test-taking strategies such as issues with time management or anxiety, will prove to be an asset for students looking to tackle the MCAT.
