Texas A&M University (Special Education)
Hello! My name is Jaclyn S., and I am currently a certified teacher residing in New Providence, New Jersey. I graduated Texas A&M University with honors in May 2012 with a bachelor of science degree in interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis in special education. Since graduation, I have been fully committed to various roles in the school setting in hopes of landing a full-time teaching job. Over the 2012-13 School Year, I served as a substitute teacher in the Districts of Chatham, Madison, and Summit. This year, I am working as a 3:1 Instructional Aide in a third grade classroom in the Livingston School District. In addition to my work within the school setting, I also have three years of tutoring experience with most of that experience focusing on elementary and special education. My passion is to help students maximize their individual potentials by expanding their strengths and improving their weaknesses to reflect their individual growth and development. I also enjoy finding creative ways to bridge the gap for any student as I understand the importance of individual learning styles. I am fully committed to helping children succeed.

My college coursework at Texas A&M University provided me with both an emphasis in Special Education as well as certifications in Elementary Education. Upon moving back to New Jersey, I have four certificates that enable me to teach Preschool-Grade 3, Kindergarten-Grade 5, ESL, and Special Education. I strongly believe that my skill set and personality are geared towards students in the elementary grades.
Phonics is a core component of reading. While studying at college, I took two extensive course on reading and phonics as part of my coursework. In addition, my recent prior tutoring experience at a tutoring facility required that I know phonics in order to help children break down words and manipulate phonetic sounds.
I am a recent graduate of Texas A&M University with an emphasis in Special Education. I have completed extensive coursework in the field of Special Education. This coursework includes countless placements and Student Teaching methods in a variety of Special Education settings ranging from Resource Classrooms to Life Skills Classrooms. In addition, I have also had prior experience care-taking for two young boys with Autism.
Study skills is an important skill set that children need throughout the rest of their educational career. I believe that my teaching and tutoring experiences have enabled me to learn a variety of study strategies in addition to ones I already had. Study skills will depend on the type of learner at hand and my special education background will allow me to adjust these strategies to the type of learner.
