Oberlin College (Linguistics)
Hello Prospective Students!
My name is Susie and I've been teaching since I was a High School student, 34 years ago! Since then I've taught both English and French to all ages, all nationalities, all professions and grades. I love tutoring and recently took a top New Providence senior from a C to an A in French. I'm an accomplished writer since I teach it professionally and can help a student excel at school and on the SAT's. Plus, I'm upbeat and make lessons fun--that's important. I have three kids, ages 21, 18 and 16 who take advantage of having a teacher for a mother.
Looking forward to hearing from you.! Hello Prospective Students!

She is a great ACT tutor, and she helped my son make very significant improvements on the ACT score in just a few months. My son was admitted to his top dream school accordingly. Thanks with our high recommendation!
Suzanne is the real deal. One expects a tutor to know the topic, but she goes beyond that and anticipates what you need to learn. She brings fun and logic to every lesson so you can begin to understand the grammar and speak the language. Most important, she makes it easy to want to learn. You won't be disappointed.
She is very helpful, patient. She always give full explanations with all the required details. With her way of tutoring, you feel the the time of tutoring running by faster than usual. You will enjoy studying with her. She really makes it very interesting, but in an efficient way.
Suzanne is a wonderful teacher. She has made amazing progress with my daughter (high school junior) in just a few short months. When we contacted Suzanne in December, we were dealing with C's, D's and F's. Since then, she has brought her grades up to a B for the 2nd marking period and just recently received a B+ for the 3rd marking period! Suzanne is outstanding!
An open and patient tutor with whom I enjoy working. Madame Suzanne is teaching me much needed grammar as well as pronunciation in a fun environment.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a skilled and experienced CELTA and TOEIC certified ESL instructor.
Although, and maybe because, I'm an American teacher of French, I'm a highly effective teacher with great passion for the language and culture. I've lived in France and travel there as often as possible. Most importantly, I bring my students where they want to be. And the journey is as much fun as the destination!
I have a degree in Language and Linguistics from Oberlin College. I spent my Junior year abroad in Paris studying phonetics at the Sorbonne and most recently, I got a CELTA degree which relied heavily on a mastery of phonetics.
As an experienced ESL teacher, I am able to communicate clearly the why's and how's of phonics. Plus I love seeing the students' "light bulbs" go off as they "see" the sounds!
I am an expert proofreader and copy editor. My grammar is impeccable, much to the chagrin of the 100's of children to whom I've given rides over the years! No mistakes went uncorrected in my car, and the overuse of "like" was a famous pet peeve.
I also coach appropriate tone and style and follow the 7 C's of communication.
As a sophomore in High School, I had the most sought-after notes of any student in the Honors or AP classes. I would then teach my less organized fellow students how to craft ones own test based on notes and how to take the test over and over until you aced your own test.
Guess what? It worked! This, in fact, helped get not naturally brilliant kids into selective colleges!
Learning how to learn is actually the key to learning. I've since taken graduate level classes on effective study skills and apply this knowledge in my every day teaching.
