About Iakovos

In High School I was having a difficult time with French class and began to abandon hope that I would ever learn the language. My grade point average was dropping because of this, and just when I was about to give up hope and accept defeat, a wonderful, inspiring tutor took the time to sit down with me every week and guide me. Soon, material that had caused me such anxiety suddenly seemed that much easier. All it took was someone explaining the concepts I was learning in class in a simpler, more focused way, and now I am fluent in the language that I was ready to give up on completely! I would like the opportunity to be that person for someone else, to take the anxiety out of learning and replace it instead with success!

I have worked as a learning assistant and a tutor throughout my college career and always try my best to make the experience of learning as easy and stress free as possible. I believe that I have a strong ability to take information that appears difficult or overwhelming and phrase it in ways that make it accessible for everyone. I am a senior at Rutgers University with a 3.7 GPA, as well as Editor-In-Chief of the Undergraduate Philosophy Journal of Rutgers, also known as Arete. I have hopes to one day become a professor, and I believe that everyone can master any subject with just a little help!

I was selected Editor-In-Chief of Arete after serving only 1 semester on the editorial board. I am highly active in the local poetry club, and even considered English as my major for a time. Now as a philosophy major my reading and writing skills are put to the test every day and as a result I have become extremely experienced in molding all writing, mine and that of others, to be the best that it can be.

I am a minor in history. I was a learning assistant in the History and Human Geography department at my community college, which lead me to tutor extensively for a wide range of history courses.

I am a good candidate for you if you are looking for someone who has lots of past tutoring experience and can give you a fresh and easy to learn perspective on difficult or tedious work. I have extremely flexible availability and a long track record of helping students improve their performance and quality of work.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
