About Michael

"Don't give up. Don't ever give up!" - Jimmy Valvano in his 1993 ESPY Speech

Jimmy Valvano gave one of the most influential speeches in pop culture a mere eight weeks before he lost his battle with cancer. I reference back to this speech on a consistent basis to not only motivate myself but also those around me. Throughout high school I served on many positions while maintaining a stellar GPA and eventually went on to proceed to Rutgers University. To name a few of the positions I was fortunate to serve under I was named class president all four years of my attendance, a peer mediator, a member of the majority of honors classes offered at my high school. During my junior year, I was offered membership into the National Honor Society, where I was given the opportunity to tutor a plethora of my peers in various subjects most notably mathematics and sciences.

My course transcript includes:
Math: Up to Calculus I
Science: All sciences up to Physics
English: The majority of the classics including Shakespearean and Greek plays
Computers: Most Microsoft office applications
Languages: 2 years of French and 5 years of Spanish

My Tutoring methods typically include the use of practice problems, recitation, and careful walkthroughs of the material. To make the subject more enjoyable I tend to include real life occurrences of the information, while also maintaining an enjoyable learning environment which proves to assist in the information sticking to the students as well.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Basketball

Basketball is a huge part of my life and has always been. Since elementary school I played on various travelling teams, and AAU teams before playing in high school. Outside of my involvement on teams I was also a temporary manager for the Rutgers Women's Basketball team. Currently, my involvement in basketball is limited to coaching the youth through a third party company and assisting in the development of the game my brother and his teammates.

Logic

I took the course in college and passed with a B+. I was eventually offered the opportunity to teach the course. Logic is a course very similar to precalculus-calculus math courses which I am quite comfortable in.

Public Speaking

Throughout high school I served as class president for the duration of the four years in attendance. As class president I made several speeches per year to the student population. I also went on to make several speeches throughout my courses and organizations in college. Most recently, I was a furniture salesman for several months where it was not uncommon to have several presentations per day.
