I'm a recent graduate of Rutgers Graduate School of Education with a Masters degree in Science Education, and a major in physics, math/education minor, also from Rutgers. I've been tutoring privately and with various Rutgers organizations for the last 5 years, with over 200 satisfied students in all manner of subjects.
My Masters degree gives me a very unique way to teach the subject of Physics, and in turn, math, by trying to look at the complex interlocking equations of Physics and explain them at their base, conceptual level.
It is my tried and tested belief that if a student can get a grasp on the concepts in Physics and Mathematics, most problems after will become an overall simpler calculating experience, making homework, tests, and even just looking at the world around you and understanding the patterns a fuller, correct, and more complete experience.
As such, I always try to include real world examples of difficult concepts, so that the student can see this difficult idea in action, and begin to form an idea of how it works. The single best result I've ever gotten from this type of tutoring was after teaching one of these concepts, having one of my students sit their parents down and explain to their parents the same concept. Watching knowledge be passed along from a student who started out a novice and had grown to this level of skill and understanding validated everything about why I tutor. I hope to get the chance to work with you and have that same kind of learning experience.
Subjects I am capable of teaching include: Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Physics (any high school course or introductory college course). Josh was my son's AP Physics tutor for the past 2 years and I am so glad we found him. Not only did his grade improve and remain at the top of the class, but his confidence level increased and he was able to approach each exam and assignment with assurance. Josh was always able to accommodate us if there was a sudden change in schedule, always came prepared and always had a positive and friendly demeanor. It was a real pleasure working with Josh.
Josh did a great job with my son. he also gave him additional work to reinforce what he is learning in college. my son is pleased.
He helped my son learn basic problem solving concepts. He also gave good and understandable examples. My son scored great on first meaningful quiz of the year!
Josh's tutoring has been very helpful for my son. He is a very knowledgeable tutor. My son felt comfortable and will use Josh again when needed.
Josh is smart, diligent, and very personable. He is the epitome of what a tutor needs to be. I would highly recommend him. He can take a difficult subject like physics and break it down so well.
Josh has been doing a great job tutoring my son in Algebra 2 and Physics. He has been able to help my son turn his poor grades into good grades. He is able to break down the issues that are confusing and give him confidence to do well on quizzes and tests.
Josh was very knowledgeable. I learned a lot of physics from him, and I felt my grade was greatly improved by his tutoring. Even on a rare occasion that he did not know an answer to a question he would take the effort to learn, and the next time I would see him he would have an answer. I would certainly recommend him to other students struggling with physics.
My daughter got an 88 on her physics tests after one session the day before the test. She said she would have failed had it not been for Josh.
My son did very well working with Josh and has requested him for another year of tutoring.
We definitely would recommend him for H.S Physics.
Our son loves physics after being tutored by Josh. Josh makes each lesson fun and interesting. This makes it easy for our son to understand the topics being taught. His grades have improved and he has a consistent "A" in Physics. We would highly recommend Josh to anyone looking for a better understanding of physics.
He listened to my concerns, and responded in a helpful manner. Josh has a good sense of humor and never made me feel guilty about asking questions.
Josh really is a great tutor and helped me a lot with my physics course. One of the things I really liked about him was that there was never a question I had in my homework assignments that he couldn't answer, in fact; it always awed me, and made me very happy, when I would read him a long tedious word problem and he gave me that look telling me he knew how to solve it instantly after I finished reading it. I think that it is very important when using a tutor to have confidence in the tutors ability in order to have confidence in one's self, and I have complete confidence in Josh's ability to perform. Although I did drop my physics course for personal reasons, when I do retake the class in the next semester Josh is going to be the first tutor I call, and when I have to take my second physics requirement I pray that he will still be tutoring. In short Josh is awesome and you should definitely use him.
Just wanted to thank Josh for tutoring me in physics (college physics). I wish I had started earlier as it would have helped me to score even better. He was patient and helped me understand the topics, review the questions and help me work through the analysis to arrive at the right answer. I would highly recommend him for tutoring Physics. Thank you Josh!
We started with Josh couple months back for my son who is Junior in high school and was struggling with Honors Physics. Josh has definitely helped him in understanding the concepts along with problem solving techniques but what make him different is his teaching style which kind of more practical as opposed to just teaching the topics from the book. My son has definitely found his confidence back in physics and also enjoys it more. He has a great sense of humor which makes the subject more interesting to learn. He is very open to giving his feedback on the progress after class is over . Always punctual and flexible in adjusting his time if there is a need. Would definitely recommend him.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
With students ranging from 7th grade to college seniors and beyond, I have taught a large number of memory tricks and problem solving techniques for how to deal with numbers and their properties. Focus has been on seeing patterns in numbers/variables so that simplification can be made into a easy task, and what facts are required to be memorized so that future problems can be seen in different, less confusing ways.
Over the course of five years, I have developed a number of tips, tricks, and methods to help understand and implement the various skills required in Algebra 2 courses. These methods have been successful with students ranging from 7th graders to college seniors and beyond.
I've worked with over 100 students in all levels of Physics classes in private one on one sessions over the last 5 years. In addition, I was the TA (Teachers assistant, ran the recitations and lab work for the professor) for 3 semesters of a college level Physics class focused on new ways to teach and get students excited about Physics. These private sessions and in class experiences have given me an innovative concept based style to encourage understanding in both a mathematical and global context which I have found is very effective at helping students understand Physics.
Working with students in both high school and college, I have helped over 75 students understand the ins and outs of pre-calc, with effective tips and methods for understanding and retention. An additional focus on how the actual tools in Pre-Calc will help the student prep for a real calculus class can also be helpful to some students who are planning on continuing in math past pre-calc.
