I have been a World Language Tutor for close to 18 years. For the last 10 years I have been teaching French, Italian and Spanish to Pre-K students through the 5th grade at Holy Cross School in Rumson, N.J. Prior to that school I taught all of those languages to students in grades 7-12 for 8 years. I also have experience teaching adults in evening classes and/or in preparation for trips abroad.
My personal belief is that everyone has the ability to learn another language. I use several techniques when I instructing my classes. I stress the importance of reading, writing, and speaking. I also use several songs and chants to enable my students to remember vocabulary words, subject pronouns, verb forms, adjective and noun agreement, etc. I am delighted when I see a student and they tell me that they can't get a certain song out of their head that we practiced in class a couple of days ago. My goal is to have the students enjoy the lesson and have fun so that they forget they are actually doing work and learning at the same time. My greatest experience is to hear a student say to me that Monday is their favorite day of the week because they know they will have a Spanish lesson with me.
I also offer a variety of positive reinforcement for my students. When they feel they can succeed even just a little, they try even harder to improve. I use lively lessons and include culture along with language study. I feel it is imperative for students to learn that other countries do things differently which encourages acceptance of all walks of life.
In closing, I love speaking foreign languages and go to great lengths to share this love with students of all ages in the hopes that they will share my passion.
Please feel free to contact me whenever you feel the need to review for a quiz, test, or just practice before a trip abroad. I am happy to help in any way possible.
I have a great deal of flexibility in my schedule during the week and am also available over the weekend.
I look forward to working with you.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
