EASTERN NAZARENE COLLEGE (English Literature)
Hi, I'm Linda, and I love to learn! I also love teaching students of all ages. I have been tutoring students from elementary age to adult on a daily basis for more than 15 years. Individualized support for a student is the most effective and efficient way to gain confidence and mastery in any subject. I can help you with that! I have experience with all levels of math and standardized tests, including the SAT, ACT, GED, Praxis, and ASVAB. I am available days, evenings, and Saturdays.
Let me tell you a little more about myself. In 1985, I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature within 3.5 years. I then completed a certification course to become a paralegal. I worked with the same employer in Cherry Hill, NJ for 11 years. My duties included legal work, office management, and tutoring. My favorite part was teaching professionals in various law offices to install and use a time-keeping software program.
I began homeschooling my two boys right from the start. My boys have always been like most boys - constantly on the move with little inclination to sit down and learn something they have no immediate interest in. I completely understand frustrated students (and parents)! It was never easy; but it was such a thrill to help them learn and become more confident in their abilities. I then started a homeschool cooperative which I headed for six years in Collingswood, NJ. It grew to over 70 families and 200 students.
Both of my boys started taking college classes during their junior year of high school as a part of the high school option at Rowan College. They each earned a full semester's worth of credits before enrolling full-time. Now I have time to help other students achieve academic success, and I look forward to working with you! Having Linda as my son's tutor is a pleasure. I can see the difference after only a few weeks with her. He understands math much better! Thank you Linda.
Linda tutors my daughter in 3rd grade math concepts. She makes my daughter feel comfortable and confident. My daughter looks forward to her tutoring sessions with Linda.
Linda is very tuned to what my son needed, and she taught him accordingly. I am very impressed and she is so patient as well! If I need a tutor for something else I would definitely use her again!
Linda came prepared. She is exceptionally gifted at motivating and teaching my child. Her clear defined goals helped me help my child to streamline his path to college. Her communication style and effectiveness are exemplary!
Linda has done amazing work with daughter over short period of time. My daughter, who has a learning disability, was reviewing Intermediate Algebra for a college placement exam. Linda is patient, clear in her instructions and an overall great tutor. My daughter really enjoyed working with her! Linda is also very flexible with her schedule; that was an enormous help to us. I highly recommend her!
Linda is patient and caring. I can tell because she wants the best for him. Can't wait for next session for my son.
Linda is an exceptional tutor. Our son has become more confident in his algebra 1 class and his quiz/test scores have already gone up. She is very patient and explains the material in a way our son can understand it. She does not rush through a session and makes sure our son understands the work before he leaves. We are so glad we found Linda. She has been a blessing!!
Linda is very professional and courteous. My 12-year old daughter was very impressed with her Algebra skills and her ability to teach. My daughter is very eager to advance and get ahead in her AP-Algebra class, and she feels very confident in Linda. Kudos to Linda!
Ms Linda is very patient with my daughter. She continues to work on my daughter's homework and strengthen her weak areas to empower her in the understanding of the math topic that her class is working on. We are so grateful to have Ms Linda at this time.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra 1 lays the foundation for all higher math classes. This subject requires abstract thinking, which is why so many students struggle. It's not that they aren't ready to think in this new way - they just need lots of time, practice, and patient understanding. I'll be able to quickly diagnose where your student's trouble spots are and how he/she approaches the assignments. I will reinforce the concepts previously taught in class and drill the particular problem areas of your student. The most important part is that your student will gain self-confidence and be able to apply these problem-solving skills to other subjects, and every area of life, for that matter.
I have experience with College level Algebra and Trigonometry. I have successfully assisted students at Rowan College at Gloucester County and am available to meet on campus if desired.
I tutored elementary math on a daily basis for eight years. I have experience with the following programs: Developmental Math, Miquon Math, and Teaching Textbooks.
I have experience with Harold Jacob's Geometry and Teaching Textbooks.
During the past 15 years, I have tutored students in all levels of math from Kindergarten to college pre-calculus. In addition, I have tutored for various standardized tests including SAT, ACT, ASVAB, GED, and the Praxis, itself. My ratings in Wyzant from these students have been excellent. In addition, I receive texts from these students telling me about their successes and thanking me for my help. The level of math tested on the Praxis is basic arithmetic and algebra. I have passed all of Wyzant's test for these subjects, as well as higher level courses. In addition, I have passed Wyzant's test for the SAT, which is a far more challenging standardized test.
I have used my extensive proofreading skills in both professional and educational settings. I can teach you how to proofread your own writing, which is critical to achieving competent writing skills.
Study skills are imperative in becoming an independent student. I will teach you how to take notes from a lecture, outline a chapter from a textbook, annotate study materials, drill vocabulary, and more.
