About Dana

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to check out my profile. I am a NJ-certified former teacher, currently working in the science industry. During my 6 years at a local high school, I taught chemistry, physics and environmental science. Those 6 years brought me many wonderful experiences with my students. I love it when a student gets excited about science or when they feel the satisfaction of mastering a difficult concept or skill. For this reason, I still enjoy tutoring outside of my full-time work schedule.

I have been tutoring privately for over 10 years and have worked with students from the 4th grade through college. Primarily, I have focused on high school students struggling with regular and honors level chemistry and physics. While I am most comfortable with these subjects, I am open to the possibility of helping out with various other sciences, lower-level math and algebra, and even some writing, public speaking, and computer skills.

So, how am I different than other tutors you might be considering? First of all, I am very proud of my ability to communicate concepts clearly and to make my students feel at ease and comfortable to ask questions and take risks in learning. I am EXTREMELY approachable and try my best to make sessions enjoyable for motivated and reluctant students alike. I inject "real-world" examples, analogies, and experiences whenever possible to clarify concepts.

The other benefit I can offer is that I have BEEN a classroom teacher, so I have knowledge of testing and grading styles, in other words, "What do teachers REALLY want from the student?" I have and know how to locate additional resources to be used during sessions.

If you or your child is struggling with chemistry or physics, please do not wait to contact me. The sooner we begin, the better chance of success and improvement! Thank you for your consideration and good luck with your search.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

A very knowledgeable and patient tutor

Dana is a wonderful tutor! My 10th grade daughter has been struggling with Chemistry and had developed huge gaps in her learning. She felt hopeless. In her first session, Dana patiently walked my daughter through the topics that had been covered in class over the last couple of weeks. She assessed her knowledge base and was able to help her fill in the holes in her learning in a very effective
