About Jeanne

After receiving my M.B.A. with a concentration in economics, I worked for four years as a financial analyst. I then moved on to a civil law firm where I worked as a legal intern until I graduated from law school. I spent the next 10 years as a NJ Deputy Attorney General in the Division of Criminal Justice. I spent three years researching and writing legal briefs in criminal appeals, and the next seven years as a criminal trial attorney. After taking a few years off, I spent ten years as a substitute teacher in grades pre-school through 12.

For the last 5+ years I have been an adjunct instructor at ITT Technical Institute, during which I taught criminal law, criminology, introduction to criminal justice, microeconomics, psychology, American government, group dynamics, and portfolio development. In addition to my classes, I spent extended periods of time tutoring and mentoring students as needed, while encouraging all students to recognize and use their often unrecognized talents and underappreciated life experiences. I utilized a variety of teaching methods and materials including class discussion, small group activities, problem sets, videos, PowerPoint presentations, hands on interactive exercises, demonstrations, and debates. I always emphasized problem solving skills which I consider essential to both criminal justice work and life in general. I emphasize analytical reading, recognition of relevant and irrelevant facts, and application of rules and concepts to real world problems in all of my classes. I encourage students to think for themselves, question their beliefs and assumptions, and challenge themselves and me in class. I consider teaching to be a privilege as well as a profession.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Criminal Justice

I was a prosecutor for 10 years and I taught in a criminal justice associates' degree program for 5 years. I have taught criminal law, criminology, introduction to criminal justice, psychology, and American government.
