I begin with a primary assessment of the status of the student and the strengths and weaknesses. This may include a writing sample, reading comprehension check, or reading assessment. In order to understand the level of the student, needs, and goals, there must be a starting ground. Once the primary assessment takes place, there must be a discussion of the exact needs and goals as well as assignments. In order to improve, assessment takes place throughout the entire tutoring process.
I plan to use my educational background from my college prep high school, bachelors degree in marketing and master's in education with a certification in Pre-k - 4 (PA) or Pre-k - 3 (NJ)to reach all levels of students. Having a plan is essential to both the success of the student as well as the tutor. Any additional information please ask me! Lesson plans and other resources will be utilized where necessary.
I love being able to help students build their vocabulary to enhance their writing and reading abilities.
Having both my PA and NJ elementary certifications enables me to provide classroom like lessons. I also have the ability to not only support what is learned in the classroom, but also explore other methods of learning for a variety of learners.
I have found success in phonics in a small group as well as a 1:1 setting.

I hold my Pre-k -3 teaching certification in NJ and my Pre-k-4 certification in PA, both of which are active.
I actively played ten years of lacrosse ranging from middle school, high school, and college. I previously "tutored" or coached a child in lacrosse and believe that I could be a positive influence on a beginning that would like to pick up the basic skills 1:1. I have overcome many injuries while playing the sport, which is why I believe teaching the beginner level would be best at this time.
I believe that teaching phonics is vital to a students understanding of the relationship between sounds and their spelling. I have worked with Fundations both in a large group setting, small group, and 1:1. it is my goal as an instructor to use phonics to teach students frequently used sound-spelling relationships so that they can decode, or sound out, words. The ability to use a variety of decoding tools will progress a student. Once a student moves past the stages where they decode words, they can begin to concentrate more on the meaning of those words in the text to help with comprehension. Guiding students in their ability to utilize blends and sounding out words with a new sound-spelling will progress their learning and understanding.
