About Carl

I've nearly completed a PhD in math (with a heavy emphasis towards the computer science side of math) from the University of Delaware. I have 25+ years of solid experience tutoring college-level math, statistics, and math-related business courses, having mostly financed my education that way. I also have 7+ years experience teaching college math, primarily calculus. I have 5 years experience working at drop-in math tutoring centers at the University of Delaware and at Widener University. I am a world-renowned expert in the Maple computer algebra system, which is used in many math, science, and engineering courses.

My tutoring is 100% satisfaction guaranteed. If you're not totally satisfied with a session, then I won't even submit a bill for it.

Please note that I only tutor college students, advanced high school students, returning adult students, and those studying for standardized tests such as SAT, GRE, and professional licensure exams.

Currently, I'm only available for online tutoring, and my hourly rate reflects that. When I do in-person tutoring, my rate is substantially higher.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Discrete Math

I have nearly completed a PhD in math with a heavy emphasis in computer algebra. I am a world-renowned expert in the computer-algebra system and language Maple. I have tutored discrete math many times.

Finite Math

I took honors Finite Math in 11th grade and received an A. Finite Math was the course that I tutored most frequently as a private tutor at the University of Delaware. I served one semester as a TA for Finite Math at the University.

Linear Algebra

I've nearly completed a PhD in math. My dissertation research is in linear algebra. I was once a TA for an undergraduate linear algebra course. I've tutored college-level math for over 20 years.

Logic

I was introduced to logic in high school as part of an Honors Finite Math course. We studied Boolean algebra, truth tables, and propositional logic, using the textbook by Seymour Lipschutz. As an undergraduate I took four logic courses---every one that was available at the University of Delaware. Those were Symbolic Logic, Modal and Many-valued Logics, Mathematical Logic, and Critical Thinking.

I have read numerous books on logic, including Godel, Escher, Bach by Douglas Hofstadter and many by logician Raymond Smullyan. I have written and published prize-winning software in Maple for solving logic puzzles.

Excellent Tutor — I normally shy away from providing reviews but felt the need to speak on behalf of Carl. I am a graduate student at Stockton University and needed to take Statistics. I avoided stats during my undergrad as I am not fond of advanced math. Carl was extremely patient with me, even during times that I was struggling to grasp the concept. Carl would patiently explain the concept over and over until I a ...
