Isaac Newton once said,"If I have seen farther than other men, it's because I've stood on the shoulders of giants." Dr. Jerry Falwell said, "Within every seemingly insoluble problem there lies glorious opportunities for growth and success.....Never Quit!" These are the mottoes that I've lived by over the last few years. I have been challenged with learning disabilities. I prefer to call these “learning curves”. I learn differently and process differently from my peers. I am blessed to have several people in my life who mentor me, tutor me, pray for me, and encourage me. Thanks to the guidance (and patience) of these wonderful people, I have achieved both my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees. The obstacles I face make my academic journey frustrating at times, to say the least. However, these challenges will make me a better tutor in that I will be better equipped to help my students when they need assistance. I know how tough school can be sometimes. I'm here to empower you with tools, and encourage you as you use them to reach and exceed your goals and potential. You will work hard, but you will learn to work "smarter" and more effectively. In addition to the school tools, you need to be able to handle tests with a cool head and a confident spirit. There are study skills and organizational skills I have learned over the years that work for me, and they will work for you, too! I can also help you with writing papers ( the organizational and proofreading aspects). When you have these tools, You will be showing yourself and everyone else that life is all about what YOU CAN DO!

If you looked up ADD or ADHD...You would very likely see my picture. Yes, that's right..many of my esteemed colleagues have taken and excelled in education classes as part of their pursuit of their degree...but I live it on a daily basis. My family lives it on a daily basis.
Many parents, teachers, siblings and peers label the unfocused child with ADD or ADHD as "a Problem Child" because they can't focus, stay on task, are distracted, can't manage their time, etc. How many parents and teachers help that child find and develop all the positive characteristics they possess because they have ADD/ADHD? It takes time and patience and a sense of humor. It takes love, dedication and creativity. There are many teachers who excel at this..but very often, they don't have the time and resources necessary to give additional help and time to that child. Most children with ADHD/ADD are incredibly intelligent. It seems like they are very intense, or, like they are a constant bundle of energy which is often unchanneled. My goal in working with you and your child is to coach and encourage while giving you the tools for success; in life, school, home, etc. These are often simple tricks that only take a moment to positively cue the student to re-focus. These cues can also help the student refocus and compose themselves in moments of heated frustration.
Together we can make a great team!
I have my Master's Degree in Mental Health: Human Services. I completed coursework in counseling and career development. I would like to assist my students in developing their career goals and setting decisive objectives and interventions to make it happen. When they see a concrete plan and set it in motion; they get energized and motivated to excel. They gain momentum and confidence with every step forward.
I am not a certified teacher, but I do hold a Burlington County Substitute Certificate. I believe that teaching and learning should be fun. Learning should be a mutli-sensory discovery process, which the child is immersed in that subject through as many types of medium possible. This will stimulate their brain, and when they are having fun, they are motivated to excel and excited with each achievement.
I am very excited about helping you learn more about your faith, or explore beliefs of other cultures and denominations. Developing your faith is very important. It can really be a positive force in how you live your life, and maintain your relationships. Each of us has a special, God -given purpose and plan for our lives. It is our responsibility to discover our gifts and purpose and use that to make the world a better, more peaceful place. It starts with one person at a time. Have you done something nice for someone today? Have you been the recipient of a random act of kindness? If so, pass it forward!
While I am not a certified religion teacher, I graduated from Liberty, which is the largest Christian University in the world.Faith and the scripture we live by was an integral part of every class in my curriculum. I had a few classes that were specific to my faith and how I will eventually use the bible as a tool in my practice, and in how I comfort those in need.
I look forward to working with you to discover the world around you.
It is my passion to help children with special needs find their strong points and gain the skills to grow in independence and confidence. I worked with students with special needs for 9 years at a special services school district. I do not hold teaching certifications, but I do have first aid, CPR, and AED certification.
Working with these special children gave me a whole new outlook on life. The students made a wonderful and indelible impression upon my life.
My goal is to coach your student in study skills so he or she will gain the confidence needed to be independent and successful. Developing good study skills while the student is young fosters independence, self discipline, and pride in his or her assignments.
Often all they need is a good set-up plan and someone to help them maintain their new healthy school habits. In balancing the tasks of college, work and family, I have developed a sturdy, effective plan which worked very well for me. I'm sure it will work for you. This is not a cookie cutter plan, because each student is awesome and unique.Your child will help write their plan so the sweet smell of success is all theirs. I look forward to meeting you and developing a solid plan of action to empower your student.
