As an experienced teacher of more than 30 years with experience at all levels from K-12 through college, I have a deep commitment to assisting students reach their full potential. I am firmly committed to life-long learning and believe in helping students find strategies and skills to become successful learners. I also work with students as a academic coach for student with attentional concerns or students that have organizational issues and study skills difficulties.
I am happy to work with students for credit retrieval in all English and History courses in middle and high school (for students who did not pass for the academic year). I also work with K-8th graders who need skills enhancement or maintenance during the summer.
I particularly enjoy working with students with learning difficulties (i.e., LD, ADHD) and have been able to help students find success at all levels. It is my strongly held believe that every student has the capability to be a successful student. My expertise is in English, History, Study Skills/Strategies/Time Management, and Writing. I also have experience working with college-bound and college students.
I am willing to work closely with the student's teachers and school to ensure the outcomes dovetail with their in-class goals. I strive to ensure the students are challenged but not overloaded. I will typically assign homework after each session and will regularly provide feedback to students and parents. I am experienced working with home-bound students.
My availability is fairly flexible. Generally I am available daily from 9AM to 7PM, although special arrangements may be made, as necessary. I would appreciate 8-hour notice for cancellations. I can travel to a teaching location.
I have taught English/Literature at the Secondary level for over thirty years. I approach English/Literature as a window into human nature and behaviors and believe in making it relevant to today's world. I have developed a series of strategies for teaching and learning basic Writing skills which allow students to clearly communicate their ideas and thoughts.
I have taught History (American) for over 30-years. I find it is interesting and tells us about ourselves as a people, how we got to where we are and where we are going.
My original training and early experience was with Special Needs students. I enjoy working with them, particularly with Middle and High School students, watching them grow and develop self-confidence which leads to their being able to reach their potential ability levels.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I currently have a valid NJ Teacher of the Handicapped Certification. I have taught Learning Disabled and ADHD students, in both public and private schools and I have also tutored students with these concerns in NJ. I have also held licenses/certifications in the states of Ohio, Kansas, Hawaii, Oklahoma, and Virginia. I have taught K - 12 students who were primarily LD/ADHD, in self-contained, resource and collaborative classrooms and one-on-one tutoring.
I have taught/counseled students with Aspergers within the past 10 years while holding a current/valid NJ Teacher of the Handicapped Certification. I have closely worked with students with Aspergers, and their families helping them to plan and implement learning programs and strategies and prepare the students for college.
I am a certified teacher. I currently have a Teacher of the Handicapped Certification in NJ. I have a number of years experience teaching K-8 in special education and in general education. My undergraduate degree was a dual major in special education and general elementary (K-8) education.
I have taught study skills for many of my 30-plus years of teaching. I have developed and utilized strategies that I have found to be successful and very doable for students at the K-8, 9-12 and college levels. I am well-versed in the areas of study skills for pretest study, daily study, time management and organization skills along with test-taking skills at each of the listed levels.
