I am a native standard Mandarin (Pu Tong Hua) speaker and have lived in the US for 20 years. I have hands-on experiences teaching Mandarin Chinese as a Second Language and have a CE issued by the New Jersey Department of Education for teaching Mandarin Chinese. I received the highest rating, Superior, on my Mandarin oral proficiency test from the LTI (Language Testing International). Having received Masters degrees in both China and the United States, as well as being a mother, I am able to tutor all levels of students who want to learn Mandarin. My lessons are customized for each student based on their needs, abilities, levels and interests. I am constantly examining and exploring different strategies to teach Chinese, placing particular emphasis on teaching to know how, when, and why to say what to whom during the lesson.
In addition to teaching the language, I also introduce Chinese culture, including things such as customs, etiquette, rules of behavior, tradition, history, and other interesting topics. These are equally important to understanding Chinese as a second language. Given these qualification and my passion for the subject, I will be an excellent tutor to whoever wants to learn. Ady teaches my both sons, 16 years old with 3 years of high school Chinese, and 7 years old with no background. The approach and methods used in class are very different, Ady adapts herself to each kid's needs, personality and capacity. With my 7 years old it is fun, games, but also very systematic and serious, and yes, with homework. He LOVES his classes with Ady. My older son thought to take one or two classes for some review (he is an A student in the Chinese at school) and now he is very happy, he felt he learn a lot each class, and asked if he can continue for the entire next year.
Ady is simply the best Chinese teacher there is. She is loving, flexible, creative and highly experienced. My children (4 and 6) are fortunate to have her as a teacher. Ady keeps the children engaged in learning while making it fun. We have gone through several Chinese teachers and none could master the balance between fun and learning as well as Ady. The children love Ady and are always looking forward to see her. She goes out of her way to find appropriate videos for the children. She teaches the children with a loving mother's touch. The result is also amazing. With Ady, my children really learn Chinese.
My son hates the thought of having a tutor, so he does not consider Ady a tutor, she is the person he speaks Chinese with.
He really likes her a lot, and I even hear them laughing together. I think the reason he likes her so much is that she treats him with respect and kindness.
Ady is always on time and well prepared. I hope she can stay with us a long time.
Ady tutored me in the Summer in preparation for a trip to China. Despite my not having a set curriculum to review (as I was not in enrolled in a formal Chinese class at the time) and deadlines to follow (as I did not have any exams for which to review), Ady was extremely helpful and patient with my limited and rusty grasp of Mandarin. She went out of her way to prepare material for our sessions, sent information pertaining to what was reviewed (and more!) via email, and even recommended movies and writers I could check out in my own time. Additionally, she is very easy to get in contact with and she promptly responds to her emails and calls. She is outgoing, patient, caring, professional, fun to work with, and she is truly a magnificent tutor and teacher.
My 9 year old daughter has been taking Mandarin lessons for 3 years. After we moved to NJ, I was very happy to find Ady to continue my daughter's classes. Ady is a wonderful teacher. She is professional, punctual and patient. My daughter really enjoys her classes.
I originally met Ady as I prepared to go to China to bring home my 7 year old son in hopes of learning Mandarin. Ady helped me learn in a only a few lessons some basic language as well as information about China as it was first my time there. After I brought my son home, Ady agreed to help him learn English as he speaks fluent Mandarin already. I could not survive this adjustment period without her. She has gone above and beyond to help him not only with his English reading, writing and language but just in general adjusting to the United States. She spends extra time with him and helps me understand better what is going on with him. He is very fond of her, looks forward to every session he has with her and it brightens his whole day once he sees her. I am so fortunate to have met her.
I was looking for someone to help me on short notice between semesters to keep up with my Mandarin studies. Ady's language skills were strong, and beyond that she was very responsive to the needs of my schedule. Most importantly, she was able to teach me in a comfortable, clear manner which not only allowed me to keep up with my Mandarin, but one which will launch me into the next semester ahead of the game. Great tutor!
Ady is an excellent Mandarin tutor! My kids (ages 9 and 10) have already learned so much in a short time. Ady comes very prepared every week with a specific lesson planned for each session. She has a great approach to teaching Mandarin and adapts to my kids' specific learning needs. She is very enthusiastic about teaching her students. I highly recommend her!
I'm amazed at how patient and kind Ady has been with my 8 yr old twins! They have learned so much already, she makes each lesson fun!
Ady goes out of her way to help my daughters, she has been wonderful, I'm glad we found her!!
Ady is very selfless and wholehearted as a teacher. She always willingly spends extra time researching materials in order to better my next lesson or to answer questions that came up in the previous lesson. She is happy to devote extra time in travel and preparation simply because she is glad to teach students who have a strong interest to learn about Chinese language and culture. Ady's kindness and thoughtfulness in attending to my requests pertaining to instruction always makes me want to be a better student. Thank you Ady!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
