I am a former adjunct professor of Political Science at Montclair State University and currently a PhD student at the University of Washington. I have three years of teaching experience at the university level and an additional seven years of experience teaching the GRE and the SAT (reading, writing, and math). I also specialize in reading and writing for students in the middle school and early high school years. Lastly, I spent two years teaching English in China and love to work with students for whom English is a second language (as it was for me when I moved to the US from Russia at the age of 8). In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor's degree in International Affairs and History with minors in Political Science and Classics. Throughout my college and grad school education I've taken 5 anthropology classes including archaeology, linguistic anthropology, social anthropology, and anthropology of Asia.
I have been playing Chess since I was 3 years old and currently hold a rating of 1560. I am available to help students who are just beginning to learn the game or are at the intermediate phase.
I have taken over ten semesters of college level Chinese and spent three years in China. Received a 2+ in reading and 2 in listening on the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT).
I am a professor at Montclair State University and have worked with dozens of high school l students on their college essays as well as other aspects of the college applications process.

Russian is my first language and I speak it fluently. However, I also took five classes in Russian language and literature while in college. As part of my work as a marketing director at Montclair State University, I make frequent trips to Russia.

I have an MA in international relations and am working toward a PHD in the same subject.
