I have been teaching at the secondary and undergraduate levels for 17 years. As a teacher of Spanish, I have not only an excellent command of the Spanish language, but also a great deal of cultural knowledge. I lived in Chile in South America for 18 years and in Spain for four. I have traveled throughout Latin America and Spain and consequently I make my classes come alive with real life experiences. I believe that all language classes should include as much authentic material as possible so that students may relate to the culture, not just the language. This helps to motivate a student to learn and connect with another culture, something that is very important in today's world.
My BA is in Spanish and French, my MA is in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from New York University and my doctoral studies are in the area of International Education. While living in Chile, I tutored secondary and elementary level students and taught undergraduate courses at a private university.
My teaching style is communicative. Though I place emphasis on the ability to communicate ideas, I also stress grammar and vocabulary. All the skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening) are fundamental to becoming proficient in a second language. My classes focus on mastering all skills and the methods are meaningful and relevant to the age of the student I tutor.
Very thorough, knowledgeable and patient with my son.
We felt the need to hire a Spanish tutor when my son entered high school, and was placed in an honors class. He always performed well in his middle school Spanish classes. But we later found out that those classes hadn't prepared him for high school Spanish. Carole's initial session, was a thorough analysis of his Spanish comprehension. Unfortunately, my son was way behind. Many of the sessions that followed, entailed reviewing vocabulary and conjugations that he should have known for high school. She assigns homework weekly to reinforce the lessons he is studying in class, and provides feedback (email and phone) about this progress. My son has brought his previous D grade to a B, and I have Carole to thank for that.Maria, 79 lessons with Carole
A Wonderful, Experienced Tutor
Carole is a wonderful, experienced tutor. She is knowledgeable in preparing my daughter for the AP exam, also quick in identifying the skills that my daughter needs most help with. Carole designed the weekly classes accordingly so my daughter is not only able to do well in her high school accelerated Spanish class but also to achieve all-around skills in Spanish. And Carole's patient, positive, can-do personality plays a big role in boosting my daughter's confidence and encouraging her to surpass herself in Spanish learning. As a result, my daughter gets a 4.0 in her accelerate Spanish class, an AP score that will waive her college courses, and more importantly, my daughter wants to continue Spanish as one area of concentration in college. We are very grateful for Carole's help! Chiwen - 40 lessons with CaroleChiwen, 40 lessons with Carole

Carole is a great tutor and helped me get a great grade on the AP Spanish Language and Culture exam. She was great in helping me memorize my grammar, and provided a ton of extra help and practice for the sections of the Ap exam. She was also extremely patient and just overall nada really nice personality. I would definitely recommend her to anyone going to take the Ap Spanish exam, or any other spanish course.Janet, 6 lessons with Carole

Carole is a pro!
Carole helped my son with his essay editing. She is smart, attentive, patient and intuitive. Looking forward to more cooperation in the near future. Best tutoring happens in person, but Carole's approach is versatile. My son has worked with her in person and on line, both times she produced results.Nate, 2 lessons with Carole
