I have been teaching at the secondary and undergraduate levels for 17 years. As a teacher of Spanish, I have not only an excellent command of the Spanish language, but also a great deal of cultural knowledge. I lived in Chile in South America for 18 years and in Spain for four. I have traveled throughout Latin America and Spain and consequently I make my classes come alive with real life experiences. I believe that all language classes should include as much authentic material as possible so that students may relate to the culture, not just the language. This helps to motivate a student to learn and connect with another culture, something that is very important in today's world.
My BA is in Spanish and French, my MA is in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from New York University and my doctoral studies are in the area of International Education. While living in Chile, I tutored secondary and elementary level students and taught undergraduate courses at a private university.
My teaching style is communicative. Though I place emphasis on the ability to communicate ideas, I also stress grammar and vocabulary. All the skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening) are fundamental to becoming proficient in a second language. My classes focus on mastering all skills and the methods are meaningful and relevant to the age of the student I tutor.
Very thorough, knowledgeable and patient with my son.
We felt the need to hire a Spanish tutor when my son entered high school, and was placed in an honors class. He always performed well in his middle school Spanish classes. But we later found out that those classes hadn't prepared him for high school Spanish. Carole's initial session, was a thorough analysis of his Spanish comprehension. Unfortunately, my son was way behind. Many of the sessions that followed, entailed reviewing vocabulary and conjugations that he should have known for high school. She assigns homework weekly to reinforce the lessons he is studying in class, and provides feedback (email and phone) about this progress. My son has brought his previous D grade to a B, and I have Carole to thank for that.Maria, 94 lessons with Carole
We are fortunate to find Carole through Wyzant
We are fortunate to find Carole through Wyzant. While we were searching for college counselors we shortlisted a few based on their online profiles. We tried a couple and they were nothing close to what they claimed in their profile. Carole’s skills were in line with what she claims in her profile and beyond. I believe that the most important skill a mentor or coach needs is to be compatible with the student. I could see that between Carole and my son at the end of the first session. My son was comfortable with her and we said we have to go with her. When we started with Carole, our plan was to have her help us out with the essays, mostly wordsmith. Very soon we could see her vast skills and knowledge about various colleges and the specific pointers about the various changes in application requirements. We were totally impressed. She helped my son understand to think the way the admissions officer would look at the letters. Fast forward to the crunch time when it was getting closer to the submission deadline. I cannot say enough on how responsive, helpful and patient she was to all the queries and curveballs my son was throwing at her. It was as if she could read his mind before he asked any question. She is also certified to work with international students. Altogether, working with Carole has been a great experience and has made the whole college application a smoother ride. I would totally recommend her and trust that she will do her best if she is given an opportunity. Thanks for all the helpRajesh, 16 lessons with Carole
Excellent Tutor - Very Knowledgable
Carole did an amazing job teaching my son Spanish. Prior to my son’s tutoring session with Carole my son was struggling to learn the preterite verbs, after one tutoring session my son now knows the information and feels confident that he will be successful on his next test. Extremely skilled tutor
My daughter was enrolled in AP Spanish this past year and was struggling to achieve the level of success she had experienced in earlier Spanish classes. My daughter started working with Carole about midway through the fall semester. Carole worked with my daughter to help her improve her vocabulary and grammar skills and her knowledge of Spanish Culture, which is a huge part of the AP Spanish curriculum. By working with Carole my daughter was able to improve her grade in the class and gain confidence in her abilities. In addition, to classwork, Carole helped prepare my daughter for the AP exam and all of their hard work paid off. Carole is extremely skilled at preparing her students for the exam. Not only does Carole know the material but she really takes an interest in your child's well being. All of their sessions were done remotely by Skype but my daughter and Carole developed a strong rapport as it was clear that Carole and my daughter truly enjoyed working together and my daughter felt like she had made a new friend. I highly recommend Carole for anyone needing assistance with a Spanish class. Debbie - 30 lessonsDeborah, 29 lessons with Carole
Organized, knowledgeable college tutor
Carole is extremely familiar with the college application process. She is helping my kid with general college guidance, including best fit and even mapping out college visits. She is incredibly well organized and is bringing a sense of order to the whole process. In only two sessions she has already made a great positive impact. I cannot recommend her highly enough if you have a son or daughter applying for college. Thanks, Carole.Gustavo, 3 lessons with Carole

Best Spanish Tutor!
I recently reached out to Carole as my daughter was struggling to maintain a ‘B’ in Spanish 3. With just 2 lessons with Carole, my daughter’s grades went from low B’s to high A’s on two Quizzes/Assignments. Carole has been a great resource and is extremely knowledgeable and we will certainly continue to work with her!Christine, 24 lessons with Carole
