I have taught English as a Second Language for many years. I have worked with children and adults from Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. The skills we work on in class include reading, writing, grammar, and conversational English. I have also tutored individual ESL students who needed help completing homework assignments or preparing for tests or quizzes in Social Studies, as well as other subjects.
I have also tutored numerous students who were preparing to take the SAT. We worked on essay writing, grammar, reading comprehension, and vocabulary, as well as tips for answering SAT questions quickly and efficiently. Many of these students spoke English as their native language, while others had learned English as their second language.
In addition, I have taught American History and World History. I love history, and know that students respond well when the teacher makes real the drama of past events and the true life stories of both common people and of leaders of the past and the present who help shape our world.
My schedule is flexible, and I would be happy to answer any questions you might have.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught English as a Second Language for many years. As an ESL teacher, I help students with the same skills taught by English teachers. They include grammar, reading comprehension, and writing. I have also helped students prepare for various standardized tests. Helping students improve in these areas is very satisfying.
I have been teaching English as a Second Language for more than 20 years. I have taught students from Latin America, Asia, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. I have a Master's Degree in this subject, and hold New Jersey Certification as an ESL teacher. My first students were adult immigrants and refugees who needed to learn English as quickly as possible so that they could find jobs in the U.S. Later I began teaching in local public schools. I have worked with children in grades K through 12. However, most of my teaching has been with high school students.
In the course of helping students learn English, I have also helped them with assignments in other subjects, such as history and biology, since these subjects require a great deal of reading and understanding a great deal of specialized vocabulary. Of course I am also happy to help with assignments in standard English classes.
I previously worked at a Huntington Learning Center, helping students with the Language Arts sections of the SAT. This included reading comprehension, grammar, and essay writing. I taught these same skills as a teacher of English as a Second Language, since ESL students take all the same tests as students born in the U.S.
