I have a Master's in Elementary K-6th grades and over 6 years' teaching experience in both in-class reading and math support as well as full classroom K-6th. I have taught in a variety of school districts from the toughest district to the most affluent. I believe that every student has the potential to succeed in all subjects with the right approach and with the dedication of both teacher and student. I encourage my students to use sticky notes throughout their day at school, especially for reading and as well as for any challenging subject, which helps me focus on what concepts in each subject they need to master during our tutoring session. This helps focus our time and maximize my support of students in their challenging subjects. I enjoy making learning fun and find my approach of no fear of making mistakes learning to work with reluctant learners. I love to read and enjoy hands on science and math. I have taught Everyday Math, Science, Writing and Reading Comprehension strategies for K-8th.

Joy is amazing. She's very patient, kind, and compassionate when tutoring my 4 year old daughter Amya. She keeps her interested by coming up with creative ways to teach and provides her resources, voluntarily, to continue her education throughout the week. Most importantly, my daughter’s ability to understand syllables and read has progressed greatly all because of Joy. With all that being said, I would highly, highly recommend Joys tutoring services.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
