About Jonathan

I earned a Master's Degree in Mathematics and immediately began teaching full-time at the college level, ranging from Prealgebra, through Calculus and Differential Equations, and into Special Projects courses. I have worked with curriculum development for our "pre-college" mathematics courses and also coordinate our multivariable calculus and differential equations courses.

I began tutoring when I was 15 by word of mouth, getting classmates and younger siblings to improve in their algebra courses. Now I am looking to fit in some more tutoring in my free time.

I have taught the following courses: Prealgebra, Intermediate Algebra, Liberal Arts Mathematics, Statistics, Calculus I, II, & III, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, and Intro to Proof.

As an instructor and tutor in a wide variety of courses, I have experience working with every type of student: The non-math person trying to get by, the math major who wants to know more, and the 20-year-out-of-high-school adult who is going back to school to get a new career.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Differential Equations

I teach undergraduate Ordinary Differential Equations quite often. Also, at the college where I work, I am the course coordinator so I am familiar with various textbooks and their styles. My expertise leans toward pure math rather than applied. I will be great for a mathematics department's Differential Equations, but may or may not be for a Differential Equations course designed by an Engineering or Applied Science program.

Discrete Math

I teach Discrete Math at the college level. My education includes a Master's Degree in Mathematics and I specialized in Number Theory, which is often part of a Discrete Mathematics course.

Finite Math

The term "finite math" can mean many things. I have a Master's degree in Mathematics specializing in Number Theory and Abstract Algebra and I feel comfortable tutoring any undergraduate form of "finite math". Graduate level would be dependent on the specific topic. As far as the college general education form of "finite math", I teach the course often at my college. We cover set theory, logic, numerical systems, group theory, and elementary number theory. I have some experience teaching Discrete Mathematics, the advanced form of Finite Math for mathematics and computer science majors. I tutored all undergraduate mathematics courses during graduate school.

Logic

I teach mathematical logic as a unit in both Liberal Arts Mathematics and Discrete Mathematics (both college level courses).
