University of Pennsylvania (English Literature)
I graduated summa cum laude with a 3.95 GPA from the University of Pennsylvania, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English literature with both honors and distinction. I also graduated with a 4.0 GPA from Camden County College with an Associate of Arts in communication. New Jersey rated my Praxis testing for teaching certification as "excellent" in all subjects from kindergarten through 5th grade, as well as in English and all related language arts for grades 6th-8th.
I have taught SAT prep courses for the verbal portion (reading and writing), so be confident that I can help your child be as successful as possible when taking the SAT.
My past experience includes tutoring at Camden County College for English, pre-algebra, and first-year Latin. I have also worked as a certified substitute teacher in all subjects for grades K-8th in the Evesham Township school district. For the past four years, I have been tutoring students privately in various subjects--with special emphasis on English and writing.
I currently work part time as a tutor at a private academy that employs an online curriculum. I help these students better understand the online material in all subjects from middle grade through high school.
In addition to tutoring, I have been homeschooling my children--ages 14 and 17--for the past four years, covering subjects from Shakespeare to Chemistry and everything in between. My emphasis is on fully comprehending material before building on it, rather than accepting a decent grade only to press on to new, more complicated material.
My approach to tutoring is the same. The importance of a student fully grasping the basis of a concept before piling on more components is what I stress. The building blocks will not stand up if the foundation is weak. Also, I try to translate the subject matter into something my students can relate to. Moreover, I consider the best learning style of a student to enable each one to be as successful as possible.
My favorite tutoring moment comes when a student's face lights up during that "Aha!" moment. Priceless! I graduated summa cum laude with a 3.95 GPA from the University of Pennsylvania, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English literature with both honors and distinction. My rate is on a sliding scale: $40 per hour for K-5th; $50 per hour for 6th-8th; $60 per hour for 9th-12th; and $75 per hour for college students. SAT prep is the same as high school: $60 per hour.
In the first lesson itself , Anne Marie was able to figure out why my daughter is having a hard time and came up with a plan that will surely help her progress .I would recommend her to anyone who needs help in Language Art.
This was my first session with Anne Marie and she made me feel comfortable right away. She was very patient and has provided me with confidence that I will be able to improve my ACT score. I am focused on reading and after one session, I feel more confident about how to approach the reading portion of the ACT. I will definitely be having follow-up sessions with Anne Marie.
Thank you so much Anne-Marie for coming to our house and tutoring my daughter. My daughter found your little tips and advice for the SAT reading very useful! She also learned how to write an awesome SAT essay and improve her score because of you. Overall we had a great experience with you being our first tutor from WyzAnt. Thank you once again!
My daughter found her first tutoring session with Anne-Marie to be very positive! She found Anne-Marie kind, patient and helpful with her knowledge of valuable information both in SAT testing and writing. My daughter feels positive that she will do well with Anne-Marie over time. She is pleasant and cheerful therefore making learning fun.
Thank you Anne-Marie. It was very nice meeting you! See you in two weeks.
Wow! Anne-Marie made a huge difference in our son's attitude toward science and helped him understand the material so much better. He definitely feels more confident and has a positive attitude - instead of hating science. She also did not charge us for the first 30 minutes - her "getting to know him" time! She found out what he enjoyed (video games!) and had him use that in his writing assignment, too. Thanks, Anne-Marie!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, earning both Honors and Distinction in English Literature. I teach an SAT prep course and tutor both the ACT and the SAT reading and writing portions.
I tutor all math subjects through Algebra I.
My New Jersey teaching certification merited an "excellent" rating in Elementary English, Math, Social Studies, and Science (grades K-5th), as well as English and related Language Arts certification for grades 6th-8th. I have worked as a substitute teacher for grades K-8th, and tutored at Camden County College for college-level courses in English and Algebra. I have also been homeschooling two children in all middle grade and high school subjects.
I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with both Honors and Distinction in English Literature. Praxis awarded me an "excellent" rating on their test for N.J. teaching certification. Moreover, I teach the verbal portion (both reading and writing) for an SAT prep course.
I was the student speaker at Camden County College's 1999 commencement. I have also had public speaking and diction courses at Camden County College. Additionally, I present an art-appreciation program in schools and have taught in classrooms as a substitute teacher--combining what I have prepared to say with the ability to ad lib.
I teach SAT courses on the Verbal portion: both Reading and Writing.
I teach the verbal portion of the SAT for a company offering 8-week crash courses. Of course, it's usually better to work one-on-one with a student, focusing on areas he or she needs the most help with.
Throughout my college education, I have developed study skills that all students benefit from: mnemonics, flash cards, taking notes as you read, and having others test what you remember. I have also been able to use these skills both as a substitute teacher and a tutor at Camden County College to help students be as successful as possible academically. Additionally, I know the importance of minimizing distractions; allowing extra study time for the subjects that are most difficult; quizzing each day on cumulative information instead of cramming it all in at the last minute; chunking the material into smaller, more manageable segments; getting organized with notes, outlines, color coding, etc.; and making these habits lasting.
