As a Reading Specialist I can help students with reading from ages pre-school to adult. I have seventeen years of experience as an elementary/middle school teacher, I enjoy working with students in their academic areas and helping to enhance their strengths and working on their weaknesses. I stress increasing vocabulary and decoding skills, reading comprehension and fluency. As a Reading Specialist I will work with students in diagnosing their reading difficulties and/or improving their reading skills in both the narrative and the content areas. I also have taught undergraduate students at a local university in reading strategies as well as supervised graduate students as they finished their work for their Masters' degree and reading specialist certificate for the last eight years.

I also work closely with students to help them in writing organization and work with them toward developing five paragraph essays as well as research papers. I stress the importance of planning the paper and then breaking each component of the paper into manageable segments to include a proper opening, body and closing.

I look forward to helping you.

As a classroom teacher with many years experience, one of the first lessons I taught every year in September was staying organized and effective study skills. I stressed the importance of study skills and how they could lead to academic success. I continued to model effective study skills with every assignment throughout the year. The skills I stressed were listening in class, having a planner to write down homework assignments, taking notes, using study guides effectively, outlining chapter notes and techniques for studying for tests and exams. In addition, I taught writing and research skills for various types of assignments. My personal motto was and still is "Plan your work and work your plan!" Since writing is an integral part of language arts, it is important to understand that writing is a process that begins with planning the work and continuing through the finish products. It is important to know how to write in various genres not only in English classes, but to take these skills to other course work, especially in the content courses, such as science, math and social studies. I have worked with many students over the years who were hesitant writers and went on to emerge as confident writers and some students' works went on to get published in anthologies. I will give you personal attention and help you become an improved writer.

Great tutor!

My son had been going to a major tutoring center for 2 years with really no results. I searched the internet and found WyzAnt. We wanted a tutor that could give my son one on one attention which he was not getting previously at the big center. I found Ms. Jerry and she is great! She takes her time with my son and that is very important. She is very calm and compassionate. My son just loves her and so do I.
