Ira is approved to conduct lessons through Wyzant Online. Wyzant Online allows students and tutors to work remotely via video, audio, and collaborative whiteboard tools. For more information about how online tutoring works, check out Wyzant Online.

If you’re interested in online lessons, message Ira to get started.

The job of a tutor is not simply to present the material; rather it is to ensure that the pupil understands and can apply the lesson learned. This requires that the tutor be able to match his method of teaching and explanation to match the individual student's needs.

I'm thrilled to say that Ira was able to do this with great skill. Though our daughter had fairly good mastery of many concepts on the SAT Math, she was often missing the "tricks." Ira was able to cut through her basic level of understanding and bring her to the next level. After she completed her first practice test, Ira confidently predicted that he could likely get her score to a 700. This is exactly what she scored on her first attempt.

With regard to his work, Ira has been very professional and understands what it means to provide good service. He is extremely prompt at returning calls, emails or texts. We have never had an issue scheduling him, as he was always able to accommodate us. We never felt as if our daughter was rushed; he always took more time than the actual hour allotted and would ensure that she understood what was covered during each session. Ira often used humor to liven up what could otherwise be a tedious process; our daughter actually ENJOYS the sessions with him. At the same time, he could be quite serious, often unrelenting when trying to ensure that a concept was definitely grasped.

We were so happy with him that we have continued to use his services as a math tutor for our daughter in Pre-Calc, as well as with our younger daughter in algebra. We would not hesitate to recommend him for any math tutoring. He is an excellent tutor. We are so happy we found him.

I liked the teaching speed and the fact that he taught how to do the problem more than one way. We did run into an issue with actually getting the problem wrong but it looked right. So figuring out how to do it the "teachers" way is something to work on for next time.

Ira made meeting very convenient. He helped me with my statistics foundation that I was just not grasping through my on-line undergrad class.

Ira made sure I understood before we moved on, he taught me how the numbers related rather than just entering them into a software.

Ira is great, definitely give him a try!

My daughter needed assistance with learning, not memorizing, some of the processes for her honors Trig and honors Algebra II classes. Ira was able to work with her and she came away with a better understanding of the processes and with a confidence that she would be successful on her upcoming test. We would definitely recommend him.

Went into for math praxis 5161 tutoring and he was great! Really knew what he was talking about and made sure I understood everything and answered all my questions. With the help of Ira I was able to successfully pass my test!

I first used Ira's services to help my son, a high school junior, with the last half of his honors precalulus coursework. He wasn't really understanding the newer concepts, just memorizing how to solve individual problems. This proved to be an issue when he was faced with a different type of problem on a test and didn't know how to solve it--panic set in. Ira took the time to go over each concept and how to apply this knowledge when faced with an assortment of math problems. My son felt more confident and didn't get overwhelmed during his test....his grades reflected it too!

My son is a senior this year and we are continuing with Ira for SAT Math 2 subject test review and honors Calculus support. Meeting with Ira each week is a good way for my son to review any concepts he learned during the week that are giving him trouble. He enjoys Ira's sense of humor and feels very comfortable asking him to go over things a few times until he "gets it". We are very pleased with Ira's services and would definitely recommend him to anyone!! Also, Ira has been pretty flexible with scheduling our sessions.

Ira, is an amazing tutor. Because of him, I passed my Math Praxis one my very first try. Not only did I pass, but I got an outstanding grade. He is very knowledgable and knows his stuff! Ira also helped by identifying the areas in which I struggled most. He was very good at isolating the root of my struggles and not only helping me understand how to correct them, but why. Most importantly, he gave me the confidence I needed in order to succeed. I highly recommend him to be your tutor.

Ira is wonderful! Extremely patient. I have been out of school for long time and he has been able to teach me new tricks. He recognizes when it doesn't 'click' and spends time to review it again.

Ira is a very patient and knowledgeable Tutor. He enjoys what he is doing and keeps my son engaged during the entire lesson. My son always feels more confident leaving Ira's sesson

It's was fantastic in his explanation. He is a superb instructor. I would use him again. A solid tutor.

This was my first session with Ira and his approach was to identify how I approach questions and helping me in my learning style understand how to approach problems. Mostly he helped me recognize that there are straightforward ways to approach questions and it is better to know approach each type of question and not to over-complicate things. Ira often said avoid the quicksand and I am sure he will help with this.

It was my first ACT session, I take the test June 11th, and i am sure he will guide me to success.

Not having taken a math course in several years and doing my best to avoid it, Ira has been very helpful in teaching by process rather than memorizing rules. He breaks problems down easily and provides understanding so that every problem we face, we start with the basic foundation. I highly recommend Ira; he has been very generous with his time and he has been critical to my preparation for the GRE.

Today Ira and I went over some GMAT math concepts, although I want not fully prepared for our lesson he was quick to think of some topics to go over and tailor the course to my area of focus. Our tutoring session was helpful and got me thinking about the process of setting a problem up to solve and what the problem is really asking. Thank you Ira!

His lessons are accurate. He'll work with you until you comprehend it. His concern is about your overall success in the subject. Great tutor! I'd recommend him to anyone.

We met with Ira and enjoyed the perspective Ira shared stressing our son's understanding and synthesizing the process getting to the math solutions rather than memorizing steps and spitting out equations. Well done.

Ira was patient and helped me understand the material. He used words and analogies to teach in a way that is easy to comprehend

Great, very thorough. He tried to give explanations in a way that I could understand which was helpful and allowed me to understand information quicker.

Ira is a wonderful tutor!!!! He has helped my daughter in the matter of a month go from a C to an A in Algebra 2 honors. In the beginning she was confused about the material but he helped her better understand the subject!! We are very grateful for his knowledge, patience and sense of humor!!! My daughter has come a long way since we've started tutoring sessions with Ira that even her teacher has seen a huge improvement.

I can't say enough about how pleased we are with how he has helped our daughter!!!

Kept my son on his toes, while showing him other ways to look at material that made the subject seem more in reach to him.

The lesson was 4 hours long, strenuous but very comprehensive. Thanks for your expertise and time. I should pass my exam and course with an high average. Thanks Ira

Ira taught and reviewed many math concepts for the SAT test. We only had 5 sessions , but my daughter felt more confident taking the math section this time. I wish we had started the tutoring earlier. He truly care that the student is absorbing the material. I would definitely use his services again.

Very helpful & patient. Would DEFINITELY recommend IRA. Worked well with my daughter & made her feel comfortable. Looking forward to using Ira's services in the future. Already scheduled another session. THX IRA

Ira was so helpful to my son this past school year. The first nine weeks of the Fall 2013, he had an "F" in "Intro to Functions." He was very discouraged and had no confidence that he could master the material. We started looking for tutors on WyzAnt and thought that Ira would match well. We met him and he was great and connected with my son and us immediately. We continued to seek help sometimes once per week, sometimes up to three times per week.

We knew that he (my son), had to have a breakthrough and Ira kept telling us that he would get it, that he just needed confidence. The second and third nine weeks our son got a "B" in math. A huge improvement. When we met with the guidance counselor, she said, "Looks like something began to change in late October." I said that's when we met Ira!! The last nine week of school, we didn't have to meet but twice. Ira did email and check up on him and truly cared how he was progressing. He would email us the day of the test or the next day to ask how it went.

It's not about "work" to Ira. Once I called him in a panic on a Wednesday morning because my son wasn't getting the math and he had a test the next day, and Ira met us at 8:30 pm that night. My son ended up getting it and doing well. At my son's eighth grade graduation, he got his report card. The grade for the last nine weeks was an "A." As soon as we got into the car, I called Ira giggling because his overall average was a "B." I think that both my son and Ira worked hard for that grade. LOL. They really did. There were days that were hard, but they worked through the problems and worked very well together. My son has said many times he is so glad we met Ira. I highly recommend Ira. You may not see results immediately because sometimes there are barriers such as self-esteem or confidence or intimidation by the material or other obstacles that may not seem as obvious. But with Ira, you or your child can absolutely attain success. Mine did. Thanks, Ira!

We are very happy we found Ira. He's amazing! My son is actually understanding Algebra! We look forward to many more sessions! Definitely a winner!

I am an adult who returned back to college after 20 years. I was in a bind getting ready to take a midterm and decided to look for a tutor. Ira contacted me within a few hours of my post and made time to tutor me on the very same day and has been working patiently with me to catch me up on the material I should know. Patient and caring tutor. Makes sure you understand the reason behind your math work not just how to do the work. Would definitely recommend.

Ira is a great tutor, with him you feel confident you will do very well. I recommend him indeed. He walked the extra mile to help me with statistics. He is very responsive to every question I have.

Ira is a wonderful statistics tutor. He is very patient and knowledgeable. He is easy to get a hold of. My son is pleased!

I wanted a tutor who could teach me the principles and concepts in quantitative analysis. Anyone can memorize a formula but understanding what you are doing is important to me. Ira was a good fit for this because he was able to break it down into small parts that were understandable. His notes were helpful for me to study for our midterm exam. I'll see how it goes this week in class and most likely I'll need him again. I definitely recommend Ira for teaching statistics and statistical analysis.

This tutor has been a real blessing for me. I have always struggled with math and just thought it was all made up garbage but Ira has been able to relate each concept to real life application and examples for me making it into something that I actually understand. I feel confident in class now to the point where I actually volunteer to do problems on the board in front of everyone instead of hiding in the back hoping I would make it through a class unnoticed and without feeling embarrassed of not understanding what everyone else got so easily. Best Math tutor I have ever had the pleasure of working with.

My son has struggled with Algebra since high school. He was required to take a prerequisite Algebra course because of low College admission test scores. He worked with tutors from the local Learning Centers in our area on a weekly basis as well as tutors from school, but failed this course TWICE with very low scores. This has held him up from moving on to get his degree. FINALLY WE FOUND IRA. He is a true professional, and an excellent teacher/tutor. My son went from not doing well to 95’s on his tests. He has finally passed this course and has a true understanding of the subject. Ira is very accommodating with his scheduling, and my son really liked him very much. I cannot say enough about this man and his ability to get through the wall that my son had up when it came to Algebra. Thanks to Ira my son is moving on to get his degree. Next he will be working with Ira on Statistics, and my son feels confident going into that course. THANK YOU IRA!!

Searched Wyzant for a tutor for ASVAB (U.S. military entry testing) and found Ira. We were looking to improve our son's scores for the math portion of the test which is a significant part of it. Don't know if it was a stroke of luck because Ira turned out to be an excellent tutor for our son. He quickly identified key areas where he was weak and helped him to improve his score. Ira made it very easy for tutoring by meeting at a nearby location for our son's sessions. Ira quickly returned all messages and provided a detailed summary of the tutoring session to the parents for review. We would highly recommend Ira as an ASVAB tutor.

Very easygoing, funny, and helpful in math! Ira was very patient and made sure I understood everything from previous sessions before we started our new session and then he checked for understanding during each problem.

Ira is always willing to run with whatever I need help with that day. He does a great job adjusting on the fly.

We are very happy with the end result after working with Ira for 4 weeks. Ira had patience and was able to explain clearly the areas that were difficult for our son. Ira was willing to work with our schedule and he is a great communicator, returning calls and emails in a timely fashion. The end result was a 100 point increase in our son's final SAT score!! Would recommend Ira to any one who is looking to improve their SAT scores.

Please note that this 100 point increase was in the SAT Math section alone!

Ira is a very patient man willing to help you in any way math related. He took the time to go over the simple terms to get me through the hard problems. He also showed me that reading the problem is very important. Not understanding words can get you confused and off task from solving a question. Ira really spent time with me to make sure I understood the process of each problem. The answer doesn't matter he said, understanding the process and choosing the best answer is important. After four sessions, I went from scoring poor to excellent on my ASVAB military math test. I would highly recommend Ira for tutoring help.

Keeps me on my toes! I learn something new each time. Can explain statistics very clearly. I would like for him to tutor me for the rest of the Semester. Thank you.

I enjoyed my study sessions with Ira. I was not really excited about taking Stats, but with Ira help I was able to get the grade I was looking for. He was more then willing to go above and beyond the call of duty. We had a few sessions on the phone and he was easy to reach! I recommend him to any student that may have a struggle with Stats!

Understands the concepts and helps with giving you a great foundation. If you don't know or unsure about concepts, Ira will break it down so you can grasp the ideal and build from there!

My 13 yr old daughter has struggled this year in Advanced Algebra. She started seeing Ira and I saw immediate improvement in her test grades. He has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to take what she is learning in class and explain it to her in a way she can comprehend. Ira has identified her lack of neatness and tendency to rush through answers as part of her problem and has encouraged her to be neat and write out all her work. She expresses relief after seeing him and having him clarify concepts for him, which is especially beneficial to her before tests. Many thanks to Ira for making a difference in my daughter's experience with Algebra!

Ira was great at helping me understand the concepts of statistics. With his help I managed to get an A! I do understand the concepts of statistics better thanks to his help.

I am preparing for GMATs and had a very specific agenda to focus on. Ira had a very good grasp of my goals and I think he did a great job of preparing me going forward. Very patient and he cares, not a clock watcher, will spend the extra few minutes to make sure his points are well understood. Would I recommend him? YEP!

My son was able to get a "B" in math this marking period (up from a C) and he subsequently made the honor roll!! Math seems to have always held him back from this and thanks to Ira, we're on the upswing!

I am currently a graduate student and needed to pass the Math Praxis exam to become highly qualified. I had already taken the test two times and was unsuccessful. Ira was able to provide me with the tools needed to pass the test. He is very patient and was always available! I highly recommend him.

My daughter has been able to increase her precalculus grade, as well as her level of confidence over this past month thanks in large measure to her tutoring experiences with Ira. Needless to say, going from a C to an A is a fantastic result! We could not be happier with the tutoring experience.

Ira is consistently patient and has been able to connect with my son more than any other tutor. My son likes that Ira wants to teach him, rather then just go over homework or stress about tests. Ira cares and wants his students to succeed.

My daughter has benefited greatly from the tutoring sessions with Ira S. During the school year, he tutored her in high school Statistics and her grade went from a D to a B, yay! She graduated in the top 15% of her class in June of 2011. Then, in the summer of 2011, Ira S. tutored her in an Algebra-refresher course which enabled my daughter to pass the college placement math test. Currently she is enrolled as a freshman in college. The tutoring was very beneficial and I highly recommend Ira if you need any help in math subjects.

I chose Ira to tutor me for the apprenticeship entrance test for the Philadelphia Carpenters Union. Math was my worst subject since I was in elementary school, and almost all of the material on the test I had not done in almost 10 years, some material I had never covered before. He is very patient, and showed me multiple ways and tricks to do certain material, and told me to use whichever method makes me tick and that I was most comfortable with. Some lessons he stayed past the ending time to go over things with me. He makes sure that you truly "get it" before moving on. In math, there is no "maybe" or "i think so" Either you get it or you don't. By the morning of the test, he had me performing like a well oiled machine. I passed the test, and a very large part of that reason is thanks to Ira.

Great tutor who was able on very short notice to establish rapport and improve understanding for AP Statistics with improved grades soon following. Ira was courteous, prompt, available and highly capable. I highly recommend him to others in need of similar help.

Ira has done a wonderful job tutoring our son. Our son's grades have come up significantly and he enjoys math again. Ira challenges him, teaches him tricks and is always available when and if we need him in pinch. We are fortunate to have found him!

Finding a suitable and knowledgeable tutor on WyzAnt was very easy. I immediately was drawn to Ira who not only resides in a nearby community in which I live, making my meeting location very convenient, but his credentials were outstanding and his reviews told me he was the person for me. Upon meeting Ira I knew that this was the person who was going to get me through my Master's level Biostatistics course. He listened and felt my pain, but was tough on me at times and that's what I needed. I needed someone to make me think and ask me lots of questions so that I would have to think it out and make sense of it. He was very patient with me and spent more time than he really needed to, but he wanted to make sure that I walked away understanding the concepts. And because of that, I went from wanting to give up early on in the course to really enjoying the course and getting A's on homework and tests. I'm happy to say that I did extremely well in the class, thanks to Ira, and ended my semester with an A. I have yet another semester of Biostatistics II, so you can be sure that I will be calling upon Ira!

My review of Ira is that he is very patient. He makes sure that you understand the material he is teaching clearly, before he moves on with new material. He is big on making sure you understand "the why" of what you are doing, which is exactly what I wanted in a tutor. I highly recommend him if you need help in statistics. I love his sense of humor which helped to ease my nervousness about learning statistics. With hard work on my part and help from Ira, I believe I will be able to pass my statistic class with a minimum grade of a "C".

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

The following four sections are the only sections that contribute to your AFQT (Armed Forces Qualification Test) score, and your AFQT score determines if you are eligible to enlist in the Armed Forces.

1, Arithmetic Reasoning

2. Mathematics Knowledge

3. Word Knowledge

4. Paragraph Comprehension

I am currently tutoring others who are preparing to pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test. I am a math specialist who is adept at breaking down arithmetic reasoning problems and mathematics knowledge-related problems for those math-averse students.

I can also help with word knowledge and paragraph comprehension.

I recently was Adjunct Professor at a local community college having taught Introduction to Statistics for two years.

I recently tutored a very worried graduate (Masters Program) student (in a nursing program) to success in an on-line Bio-Statistics course project. She earned a "A" for the course.

Also, earlier this year, I helped an Anesthesiology Nursing Graduate Student in her on-line Biostatistics course and the result was that she scored the highest overall average of any student in her class and earned an "A" for her final grade.

I can help you to understand and apply statistical concepts through proven ways that I have refined for explaining these concepts in simple, understandable terms.

I have experience in teaching and tutoring the following concepts in discrete mathematics:

Set Theory

Number Theory including prime numbers and prime factoring

Combinations and Permutations

Binary code and hexidecimal conversion

Game theory.

Linear algebra. (Cramer's Rule)

Sample space (decision tree)

Mathematical logic is a subfield of mathematics. This includes, but is not limited to, set theory, proofs (such as in geometry) and model theory. Much of the SAT test includes testing the students' reasoning and logic skills. Over the past 7 years, I have tutored many hundreds of students in developing these skills. I incorporate many math "tricks" and test taking techniques that I have developed through my extensive tutoring experience.

I have recently tutored students for the math portion of Praxis I and Praxis II in elementary, middle school and high school test versions. I have techniques of breaking down concepts in very simple, easy-to-understand terms for those "math-averse" students. In one situation, I helped a student pass after failing four times prior to working with me.

I have taught Introduction to Statistics which includes Probability for two years at the community college level. Through hundreds of hours of teaching and tutoring this subject, I have developed ways of communicating these concepts in easy-to-understand methods. Concepts I am especially adept at communicating include the following: sample space (decision tree), "AND" (intersection) versus "OR" (union), Venn Diagram and conditional probability.

I currently tutor groups of students to prepare them for taking the math portion of the SAT test. I have techniques of breaking down concepts in very simple, easy-to-understand terms for those "math-averse" students. I can translate that skill set to the preliminary SAT test (PSAT).

I know the following concepts (as examples, not an all-inclusive list):

1. Descriptive vs. Inferential Statistics

2. Frequency Distribution

3. Measures of Center

4. Z-Score calculation

5. Student-t distribution

6. Hypothesis Testing full procedure (test of proportion, population mean and standard deviation (Chi-Square).

7. Probability including Bayes' Theorem, Venn Diagram and Sample Space

8. Binomial Probability Distribution

9. Permutations vs. Combinations

10. Confidence Interval

11. alpha vs. beta error

12. Minimum quantity and error

13. Simple Linear Regression Analysis

14. Correlation Coefficient

15. ANOVA (Analysis of Variance)

I recently taught Introduction to Statistics at Burlington (NJ) County College (8 semesters from 2004 to 2006) and have successfully tutored statistics and biostatistics up through the PhD level. You will find numerous statistics and biostatistics student testimonials on my WyzAnt profile.

I am not an expert in entering data into statistical software (SPSS, MS EXCEL STAT, TI-84, etc), but I can properly analyze most of the results.
