College of New Jersey (Applied Mathematics)
Hi! My name is Varun, and I am currently an Applied Mathematics Major at The College of New Jersey. I have been tutoring Mathematics for 8 years now, covering subjects ranging from, but not limited to Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Multivariable Calculus, Probability, and others. In addition to tutoring students one on one, I have also worked in groups at various tutoring centers. Additionally, I have had the privilege of working with inmates at the Jones Farm Prison in Trenton, NJ, helping them master material to attain their G.E.D over a period of one year. This experience taught me patience, and to use different approaches with students from various backgrounds.
In order to effectively help a student reach his or her academic goals in Mathematics, it is vital that tutors focus on problems, rather than wasting crucial time lecturing the student on the course material. This allows one to focus efforts on specific areas where the student needs help, and target particular needs.
I have enjoyed tutoring Math particularly because my love for it. Sharing that with other people has been a great experience, and something I hope to continue doing for a long time to come.

Varun was able to quickly identify the areas in which my son needed help and then explain the material in a way that was easy for him to understand.
He is a great math tutor. He understands and can teach the material in a very simple and easy to understand way.
Varun has been a wonderful tutor for my daughter. She is now more confident when taking her Math Calc BC tests. He is very flexible with his timings and easy to communicate. Thanks for your help Varun. Wish you a happy new year 2014.
Varun has been tutoring our daughter in honors geometry. The time that he has spent with her has not only improved her grades, but has given her an understanding and appreciation for math that is priceless. His knowledge of the subject is tremendous and his ability to explain things to others is beyond compare. We are so glad that he is working with our daughter and would highly recommend him to anyone in need of a tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
During my time as a tutor, I have had the privilege of working with students from a wide array of backgrounds and learning styles. Along with helping in one-on-one and group environments in homes and schools, I got to tutor inmates at the Jones Farm Prison in Trenton, NJ who were working towards their GEDs. This has taught me to adapt to particular situations requiring special attention, and alter my style according to the student's individual needs.
I am the child of two persons who are natives of India, and who spoke Hindi before they learned how to speak English. Growing up, I was forced to speak Hindi in the household, and became fluent in it before I spoke English. I taught myself how to read and write Hindi as well, because of my own curiosity. I am capable of fluently speaking, and reading and writing the language.
I am an Applied Mathematics major at The College of New Jersey, and completed the Linear Algebra course with the MatLab supplement last year with a great score. I feel I have been able to take away the concepts I learned in that year and apply them well in the classes I am taking now. In addition to applying the concepts in my current course, I am applying the MatLab programming skills I took away as well.
Been tutoring Pre-Algebra since high school
I have over six years of experience tutoring Pre-Calc specifically.
