I'm glad you found me. Before I commit to a family and a learner I like to meet and see if we have a bond. I think its important for everyone to feel comfortable, since learning can be challenging. The idea of obtaining a tutor for some kids, often can be a drag. My aim is to have the learner feel comfortable enough to want me to come and help them learn. Each learner has strengths and weaknesses. It's important for the tutor to utilize the strength to facilitate the weakness.
I use motivational systems to promote success. It's all about baby steps to the ultimate end goal. Short goals are set along the way to provide immediate reward to the learner; offering a sense of confidence and hey ," I can do it". With parent involvement combined with the student and tutor we will all make sure we are on the same page to provide maximum growth in all environments.
Ultimately it is important to get the learner involved, find out what there preferences are and use those items to motivate them to learn the skill(s).

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been working with learners on the spectrum for the past ten years in a school for autism as a speech and language specialist. I have implemented communication systems so the learner can communicate and learn to request there own wants and needs. I attended Galluadet University to obtain an ASL certification. I integrate picture symbols, such as PECS and ASL to promote visual communication or total communication. While some parents, prefer speech and language therapy ... I am also able to provide therapy in that area.
I am a language based therapist that has been teaching phonics to young learners for several years. Because most of my learners are not typical learners I use a multi sensory approach ... phonics is the the foundation for elementary reading, math, and writing skills. It is important for each student to use there auditory senses, there tactile, and other senses when differentiating different sounds and rhythms to determine the likeness and difference among the words. It is important to teach new and early readers to search for the visual and auditory patterns when decoding and encoding phonemic patterns.
