About Marat

I am an academic (have a graduate degree from Rutgers University) with fifteen years of teaching experience at the college level in the United States and Canada. I teach Political Science/International Relations, modern European History, and Russian.

If you are interested in Russian tutoring, we can start practically at any level. I have experience teaching Russian to students from different age groups (from 10-12-year old kids and to college students to adult learners) and with different levels of Russian (from students with very little Russian to heritage-speakers). I am a native speaker of Russian, received my school and undergraduate college education in that language. I am well read in Russian literature, know Russian history, follow Russian politics professionally. So, if you are a high school or college student or adult learner, you will not only improve your Russian skills with me but also pick up a lot of interesting and useful things contemporary Russia as well as Russian culture and history.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Political Science

I have a graduate degree from Rutgers University (New Brusnwick, NJ) in Political Science. I have been teaching political science and international relations at the college and university level since 2001 in the US and Canada (at Rutgers, the University of Calgary, Seton Hall University).

Russian

I am a native-speaker of Russian. My undergraduate degree from Tbilisi State University (Tbilisi, Georgia, then USSR) was in Russian linguistics and literature. I lived in Moscow for several years. My professional experience includes, among other things, employment with the International Monetary Fund as an English-Russian translator and with Rutgers University as a Russian instructor. I also have experience tutoring middle school students.
