As a young student I was granted a full scholarship and boarding with families to attend Germantown Friend's School in Philadelphia, Pa. wher I was an Art Major. Although I worked throughout high school I earned a Nation Merit Scholarship and went on to study Art and Design at Pratt Institute.
After Art School, I worked for many years as a professional Illustrator (Renderer). A subsequent degree also from Pratt in Interior Design helped to launch my career into commercial design, where I works as an executive designer for many years.
I am currently seeking to work more in the hands on field of Art by teaching Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, and Drafting. I have some experience teaching Drawing at The Fashion Institute of Technology as well as mentoring Newark High School Students in Design.
A total of seven years in the Art Studios of Pratt has exposed me to many teaching methods for this field in particular. Because I can articulate the techniques that underlie great Art, I can guide students through processes needed to execute great work. Because I have extensive curriculum in Art History, I can make Art relevant to students as relates to history. I teach with understanding of the sensitivity of students, and understand their need for praise sa well as constructive criticism. I have extensive examples of my own art, from drawing, to oil painting, to watercolor, to sculpture.
Contact me if you'd like to see examples of my artwork, or of my design work. If you are interested in a career path like mine, I can help you prepare a portfolio of work to gain access to the best Art and Design Colleges. I suggest classes of a few hours twice per week at minimum to gain momentum, and will also prescribe optional homework to reiterate lessons such as color theory, spatial rendering, figure drawing, or technical drawing. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
