I have RN experience as an hospital and college instructor. Starting as a nursing assistant some 45+ years ago, I continued my education and training in the medical field for many years. I love and heard the call to become a nurse capable of providing loving care to those in need of a human hand and touch of love. It took me a total of 15 years to reach my goal of becoming master's prepared and able to teach in the college setting. I began by taking six years of evening school for my AAS, plus 6 years of evening school for my BSN, and then another 3 years for my master's. I graduated in 1996 from Teacher's College, Columbia University, New York City. I worked full time while going to school, so I do understand what the present student in nursing is dealing with.
I have experience in online development of nursing courses and have taught in an online fundamental level course. I do enjoy online teaching and have at one time developed several study programs for the student. I also have developed multiple study tools for students. I believe that education needs to empower to the student. I am an ACE teacher. I Acknowledge the student; Coach the student and Empower the student.
As a Fundamental Instructor in Nursing, I have 10 plus years teaching the basics of nursing and pharmacology. Fundamental nursing is an overview of everything that is taught in the two year nursing program. The basics, the critical thinking, how to read a test question and look for the clues to answer correctly.
I encourage my students to DIVE like Dolphins everyday into their studies. D= determined to complete the study but always take that 10=15 minute break; I = instinct/intuition use it to the best of your ability; V= you have a Vision to pass the course, I have a Vision to coach you in passing; E= Enthusiasm we will have fun reaching that Vision. Thank you so much Mary Lou! She passed! Your patience and knowledge really helped Katie get through all her testing! We are very grateful to you and will certainly refer you!
In my coaching, I hope that I have touched Katie for the rest of her career. She will be a good nurse and I will continue to be for her. thank you.
The instructor answered all my questions thoroughly and gave feedback on how to study and master the material. Would like to get more tutoring, once my courses start back again. It would be helpful if the instructor had access to all the online resources for the textbook.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Fundamental instructor for more than 15 years. Worked hospital for 28 years. Was staff development for 10 years.
My pharmacology experience and teaching has been on the fundamental level, quizzing students in the clinical setting about medications that they are administering to their patients.
My pharmacology knowledge is not detailed enough for pharmacist studies. It's basic, geared more towards nursing students, including the "needs to know," calculations, side effects, adverse interactions, reasons for administration and nursing actions to be done prior to giving the medication.
