I was a full-time college chemistry professor for over 20 years and continue to teach part-time. I have a PhD in chemistry. Recently, I started a career as a chemist in biotechnology. I have children of my own including 2 who are majoring in the chemical sciences in college. I have younger children in middle and high school as well so I understand the challenges faced by young people today.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a PhD in chemistry. I've taught college chemistry for over 20 years. Courses included those such as general chemistry, quantitative analysis and physical chemistry which require mastery of a high level of algebra.
