About Rob

A college professor with over 15 years of teaching and tutoring experience, I help my students with all parts of the writing process (e.g. planning, drafting, revising). While I am available for help with proofreading and editing, my passion is helping my students to learn about their own writing process and giving them the skills and support they need to meet their writing goals. I truly enjoy working with and talking about writing with other writers. It is my career.

I am also and experienced TESOL teacher who has taught ESL to speakers of Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, and Arabic both in the US, and abroad. I have experience working with young adult and professional students who want to learn and practice conversational and business English.

I have a PhD in English and Rhetoric, and my area of research is writing studies. I regularly attend national conferences on the teaching of writing.

If you need help with your writing and want to learn the strategies and skills used by skilled writers, you should contact me.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Proofreading

I am currently an English professor at Queensborough Community College where I teach courses in writing and literature. I have my Ph.D.and M.A. from UW-Madison and a B.A. from Tufts. I have experience tutoring and teaching writing to a wide range of students.

Writing

I am an English professor who has been teaching English and writing since 1998. I have a Ph.D. in English from the University of Wisconsin, and have directed writing centers and writing programs. I have years of experience working one on one with writers from a variety of backgrounds.

Too soon to tell, but we're off to a good start... — Rob was on time, pleasant, and got along well with my son. He wanted to see my son's work, and my son was in the middle of a paper, so Rob was able to get a sense of the work that needs to be done. All in all, too early to give a true review, but I'm encouraged. ...
