Bio

Teaching is what I love! My main specialty is music, in which I can teach a broad range of topics, but I also have a great deal of experience and interest in other academic topics as well as a passion for athletic sports that goes well beyond just a hobby. Rest assured that I only choose to teach subjects that I feel completely fluent in myself, so you can always expect the best learning experience!

I’m currently finishing my fourth year of school in Montclair State University’s John J Cali school of music, in which I’m pursuing a bachelor’s degree in music education. My primary instrument and particular specialty is piano, in which I’ve invested close to 16 years of my life to learning and nearly 5 years of which to teaching. While spanning a range of teachers, I’ve honed my technique to incorporate ideas of the Russian piano method, the Taubman technique, as well as my own individualized ideas spawned from many hours of practice seeking to find my ideal technique, something which I firmly believe everyone who plays an instrument must do as no person’s technique can be exactly the same owing everyone’s unique physical nature. My expertise also extends into voice, in which I’ve been a bass vocalist for two esteemed ensembles: Montclair State’s Chorale and University Singers, as well I am a former member of both the NJMEA All-State Choir 2014 and NJSMA Region I Choir 2015. In addition, I also have experience learning violin for 16 years and teaching for 4 years. While not as numerous in accolades as my piano experience, I’ve consistently performed in school orchestras, small gigs, and recitals for just as long as with piano. Furthermore, as part of my degree program in Montclair State, I’ve learned to teach basic skills for beginner trumpet, trombone, saxophone, clarinet, viola, cello, bass, and percussion instruments. Beyond instrumental techniques, I am also very experienced in teaching music theory/composition and aural skills, as well as jazz and classical improvisation.

In terms of other academic subjects, I have experience across 6 years tutoring in STEM topics, English reading and writing, and communicating and understanding French. I’ve been a consistently high-scoring student, being on the honor roll throughout high school and on the dean’s list throughout my undergraduate career, in addition, I’ve placed high among the ranks of French-learning students in “Le Grand Concours” contest. Furthermore, the general education courses in Montclair State’s Teacher Education program have allowed me the ability to teach in a variety of subjects within and outside of my primary field of study, and from multiple angles of understanding including theoretical, psychological and philosophical standpoints. All of this is to say that I am fully prepared and capable of helping you master nearly any of your academic ventures regardless of age or experience!

Thank you so much for checking out my profile, and feel free to send me a message! Unfortunately, due to not having consistent access to a car of my own, I cannot often drive farther than 20 miles from Montclair during the week (or from Livingston during the weekend), however, whether through Wyzant or meeting me at a designated location this won’t be an issue. Schedule a lesson with me and I will be sure to give you not only the ability get the best results, but also an enjoyable atmosphere to learn in! I can be contacted for a lesson with any amount of notice ahead of time, and for the sake of flexibility, the appointed time slot can be moved around up to 12 hours from the original time. Times cannot be changed after this point. I look forward to working with you!

Composition (Music)

Composition (Music)

I've had many professional engagements over the course of more than 6 years involved in the commissioned solo and ensemble arrangements of varied genres from movie soundtracks to pop to classical music. This along with my experience in independent composition and arrangement as well as taking many college-level classes for music theory, orchestration, composition, and music history allow me the skills to operate in a professional atmosphere. In addition, I've taken multiple pedagogy courses in Montclair State University's teacher education course to help me learn how best to assist in the development of these skills for others.

Ear Training,

Ear Training

I have close to 6 years of experience in ear training classes from high school to undergraduate college, during which, I've receive consistently received A grades in every class and received a 5 on the AP Music Theory test. In addition, I have a lot of practical and professional experience applying these skills, having to transcribe and arrange many pieces by ear for solo piano and chamber ensembles both in professional interactions and personal projects. I am well aware of many methods, and tools to aid students in developing these skills, as per my personal experience and in my own pedagogy class experiences in Montclair State University's teacher education program.
