About Fanit

I believe that every student is capable of learning. My goal is to allow them to reach their maximum potential by getting them interested in the subject, making them think, and teaching them in the style most comfortable for them. Some people are visual learners, so for those a picture may be worth a thousand words, some are auditory, for whom the explanation is most important, and some learn by doing. I apply my vast experience to teaching an individual person and adapting to that person's learning style. I have been tutoring students for over 20 years, from elementary to high school age, and I have always been able to help them become comfortable, confident, and knowledgeable in the subjects that I teach.

I have been educated in the top schools, have achieved great results, and I am committed to helping others do the same! I have a Master's Degree in Computer Science from the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, where I achieved a GPA of 4.0 and received an award for being the best in my class. I have been employed as a computer science professional, and have worked in the industry's top institutions. Moreover, I am certified to teach mathematics and computer science K-12.

Along with the disciplines that I am teaching, I also teach study skills, time management and organization, because I believe that if you have a disorganized mixture of study materials, you have a disorganized picture in your brain. If you have an orderly picture of the material in your brain, you will understand the material, otherwise you will not.

It is important to build from the bottom. I go deep into the student's knowledge and find out whether they have all the necessary building blocks first, and then I try to build up their knowledge. If you don't have a good foundation, you cannot build upon it.

Lastly, I try to interest the student in the subject. If you have interest, then you will want to achieve results yourself rather than someone pushing you to achieve them, and in the end you will be rewarded by having the best grades and fulfilling your dreams.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have successfully tutored many students who dramatically increased their ACT scores and went on to be admitted to top colleges. I can help with the material covered on the test as well as test taking strategies which will result in a top score. I utilize real past ACT tests that is essential for practice for the actual test.

Algebra 1

I am certified to teach mathematics K-12. Many students have difficulty when first encountering abstract math, so Algebra is my most requested subject. I have successfully tutored many students, who improved their grades in Algebra I dramatically. I also developed a curriculum that I am teaching to 5th and 6th graders starting them on Algebra at an early age, so that they are familiar with the concepts when they go on to take Algebra formally.

Algebra 2

I am certified to teach mathematics K-12. Students often take Algebra I, then Geometry, then Algebra II, so they forget a lot of concepts from Algebra I in the meantime. My goal is to build a strong foundation of Algebra I and then proceed to Algebra II, which is the lion's share of all standardized math tests. I have successfully tutored many students, who improved their grades in Algebra II dramatically and, as an added bonus, scored higher on standardized tests.

Calculus

Calculus was the first subject that I ever tutored. This high level subject requires thorough understanding and careful implementation. I can provide explanations and practice problems for the student to gain understanding of calculus.

Computer Programming

I have extensive experience tutoring high school and college students in computer programming. I have a Master's Degree in computer science with a 4.0 GPA and an award for the highest GPA in the graduating class. I also have worked as a software engineer for years, and I am certified to teach computer science in high school.

Computer Science

I have a Master's Degree in computer science with a 4.0 GPA and an award for the highest GPA in the graduating class. I have worked as a computer science professional for years and successfully tutored many high school and college students in the subject. Most of my AP Computer Science students have received highest grades in the subject and achieved the highest score (5) on the AP Test. I use extensive preparation materials for the AP test and for class tests, especially for the Livingston, Verona and Millburn school districts.

Elementary Math

I am certified to teach math K-12. I have successfully tutored many elementary students in math. I emphasize understanding and word problems, not just memorization, and I provide supplementary materials for students interested in progressing to higher levels of math. I have developed a curriculum which I currently teach that bridges the gap between elementary and middle school math. Using this curriculum, most of my students were able to get into the highest level of math offered in school in 6th grade.

Geometry

I am certified to teach math K-12. Geometry is unlike any other math subject that students will encounter in their lives. Also, this is the subject where students first encounter formal proofs. I work with students to learn logic needed for proofs, and to create proofs on their own. I also emphasize the importance of drawing and marking correctly on the pictures so that it is easier to solve problems.

GRE

The GRE test includes math up to algebra and geometry, both of which I have been tutoring for a long time. I can help with the material covered on the tests as well as test taking strategies which will result in a top score. I have successfully tutored many students who went on to be admitted to great colleges because they scored high on the entrance exams.

Java

I have a Master's Degree in computer science with a 4.0 GPA and an award for the highest GPA in the graduating class. I have worked as a computer science professional for years and successfully tutored many high school and college students in Java. Most of my AP Computer Science students have received highest grades in the subject and achieved the highest score (5) on the AP Test. I use extensive preparation materials for the AP test and for class tests, especially for the Livingston, Verona and Millburn school districts.

Logic

As part of my computer science training, I was required to study logic and how it applies to algorithms in computer science. Logic is the building block of all sciences and math, and without understanding it the student will have a hard time in all of those. I also took a philosophy course in logic. I typically teach all concepts of logic from analogies to logical operations and their composition, as well as logic problems and how to solve them using the logical grid.

Prealgebra

I am certified to teach math K-12. I have successfully tutored many students in prealgebra. I help students master prealgebra so that they can build a strong foundation and move on to algebra later on. I emphasize understanding and word problems, and provide many materials to practice. I have developed a curriculum which I currently teach that bridges the gap between elementary and middle school math. Using this curriculum, most of my students were able to get into the highest level of math offered in school in 6th grade.

Precalculus

I am certified to teach math K-12. Precalculus builds upon Algebra 2 knowledge and extends it in order to prepare for Calculus. In this subject, it is imperative that the student starts thinking at a higher level and applies the concepts learned in Algebra 2 in order to succeed. Precalculus also typically includes Trigonometry, which is based on Geometry knowledge. My goal is to connect all of these subjects and present a picture that is thorough and easy to understand. As always, I have lots of practice materials to support the learning.

SAT Math

I have successfully tutored many students who dramatically increased their SAT Math scores and went on to be admitted to top colleges. I can help with the material covered on the test as well as test taking strategies which will result in a top score. It is essential for students to prepare for the new SAT and train for it specifically, so I use the newest material in preparation for the test.

Trigonometry

I am certified to teach math K-12. In trigonometry, the goal is to draw on what the student knows from algebra and geometry. It is important to bridge all gaps in the knowledge and introduce higher level concepts after that. Since trigonometry is also essential for standardized tests, students also simultaneously prepare for college entrance exams.
