My career as a teacher in private schools has spanned 24 years. I have taught at Kushner since 2000 and previously taught for 7 years at Yeshiva University High School in Manhattan. My most prominent courses include my Advanced Placement American History and AP US Government courses. Over the course of these years, I have designed and taught many other courses, including Kushner's Western Civilization I and II curriculum over the past 17 years. I have been certified by the College Board for the new 2017 AP US History program. In the last five years, I have attained 57 Fives, 18 Fours and 8 Threes. I have NO AP scores below a Three for the past 7 years. My goal is to maximize performance to the highest degree possible. I make learning interesting and fun, as well. I also have experience working with special education students during my career.
In addition to the above, I am certified to teach secondary school social studies in three states (NY, NJ, and Mass.) and have successfully taught history courses that ranged from the New York State Regents exam curriculum to AP level European History, American History and US Government and Politics. Justin is the history department chair at a local high school. As you might expect, he has total command of the AP US History material. Perhaps most importantly, Justin is able to explain the historical significance of events and to connect one event to the next. My son analyzes events much better as a result, and his classroom grades have improved since he began working with Justin. In addition, Justin has been very helpful in my son's AP test prep. Justin understands for the format of the test very well and tailors his lessons to the subjects on the exam. Justin's students have achieved mostly 4s and 5s on the test, and I'm confident that my son is well-prepared for his exam. I highly recommend Justin, particularly given the scope and complexity of the US AP History exam.
Justin is incredibly knowledgeable about history. He came well prepared and made the tutoring session fun and interesting for my daughter. I could hear her laughing many times during the two hour session. He was patient and encouraging. He gets the highest marks from us!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
