What’s up Wyzant scholars! My name is Lara and I love to learn and help others do the same! I have a BA in English Literature and Secondary Education with an MA in English Literature. I am an experienced high school English teacher, having taught grades 9-12. I have taught AP English Literature, Honors and standard levels for over 10 years. While I loved teaching high school, my passion moved me to the college classroom as an adjunct professor. There is something about a room full of scholars that have the same passion to learn a subject as I do that makes me buzz with electricity! That same energy continues to keep me passionate about what I do. Because I have the experience in a high school and college classroom, I know the expectations for both and can help a high school student with the transition into higher learning, not only academically, but mentally as well.
Although I teach at a university now, I still love helping students of any age. My tutoring experience ranges from elementary to adults, both private tutoring and through the school system. At my former high school, I spent four years tutoring in an after school program for English and History. If I wasn’t in the tutoring program, my students always knew they could find me in my classroom for any extra help. I also taught a summer adult English class to Spanish speakers for two consecutive years. That was an invaluable experience as it was not only challenging, but taught me how to be a better teacher since it was a new teaching dynamic for me.
My specialties are academic writing, research, reading comprehension and all things Literature! I can also help you with pre-writing organization and revisions for essays, test preparation and study skills, and developing/enhancing critical thinking skills.
