Fairleigh Dickinson University (Enrolled)
Hey, my name is Kiera. I am currently a graduate student at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ. I have one semester left where I will student teach at a school for four months to receive my MA in Elementary Education which I plan to complete in the Fall of 2016.
I have tutored small groups of children ranging from 2nd to 5th grade including ESL and students with learning disabilities in Math and Language Arts. I prefer one on one tutoring which I did last semester with a 5th grader in Math for a total of 30 hours for an assignment where I received an A. I set goals and the student showed improvement.
Over the course of the past 4 and a half years I have taught three lessons with a 5th grade class at School 8 in Linden, NJ including Science as well as created games as study tools for upcoming test. I have taught two lessons at a Hoboken Public School for a 2nd grade class, where one lesson was supervised which allowed me approval for my student teaching.
I love tutoring because it allows one on one interaction between teacher and student. I love creating relationships with students in a open, caring environment where a student can grow at their own pace. I love the specific attention given to meet the goals of the student by creating a plan designed for a specific learner. The student not only sees their own improvement, but gains confidence in the classroom as well. The skills that they develop through tutoring can help in all areas of life and they will grow as a student as they set higher goals.

I took a World Literature: Folklore class which I received an A. I love reading and can conduct reading test if necessary. I love learning and incorporating new vocabulary.
I am well rounded because I have taken many classes as well had in classroom interactions and results. I have dealt with creating and evaluating assessments and textbooks. I have learned how to find resources for the specific skill or need of the student. I encourage students to try with a positive attitude, set self goals and help them find ways to achieve success.
