I have been teaching since 1998 after graduating college and love everything about it. My entire career has involved teaching English Language Learners and, since 2006, I have worked with these students exclusively. I have taught every age from Kindergarten to adults and enjoy the unique experience each age group brings.
Beginning this past year, I have moved on to the role of ESL Specialist for my state department of education, where I now support and train ESL teachers and supervisors on ways to strengthen their program and instruction. I have gained a deep understanding of the needs of ELLs over the past almost 20 years and want to spend the rest of my career spreading support and knowledge to as many people as possible.
While I do have a full time job, I am choosing to tutor because I love the experience of teaching students directly and want to continue this. Teaching is an incredibly fulfilling profession and WyzAnt allows me to continue this experience outside of my job as an ELL Specialist.
Educationally speaking, I am a fully certified ESL instructor with additional certifications. My original teaching certificate in K-8 was received in 2002 along with a certificate in Teacher of Psychology. I received my ESL teaching certificate in 2006 and in 2011 I received my Masters in Education (M,Ed.) in Curriculum and Instruction with ESL Specialization. Since then, I have also earned a certificate in Supervisory by the state of New Jersey. This educational background has helped me fully round out my classroom experience by taken a vast amount of college coursework to further enrich my teaching.
Please read my profile carefully and feel confident knowing that I am someone who is fully committed and knowledgeable on how to best instruct English Language Learners. Everyone's reason for wanting to learn English is unique to her or his life story. I am happy to work with you to develop educational supports and teaching to best help you achieve your English language goals. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
