"The three great essentials to achieve anything worthwhile are, first, hard work; second, stick-to-itiveness; third, common sense."

Thomas A. Edison

The above captures all that I believe is necessary to succeed - in academics and athletics alike. I have found Edison's words to be true in my own experience, and I believe any student with a reasonable goal can achieve it by working hard, being relentless, but keeping a good head on his/her shoulders all the while. Soon after arriving at Boston College, I stumbled onto the men's rowing team, starting out near the bottom of the freshman/novice team. A couple of years of persistence and many blisters and callouses later, with 2 marathons under my belt, I made my way into the bow of the Varsity 8+. Earning a seat in the program's top boat was primarily the result of my choice to continue progressing; I still look for ways I can improve as a teacher, athlete, son, brother, etc. This lesson of perseverance, in all endeavors, is one I look to instill in my students.

I have taught in classroom settings, in small group settings, and in my preferred setting of 1-on-1 interaction. The ages of the students with whom I have worked are extremely varied (from 9 years old to 30+ years old), and in addition to becoming versatile to meet the diverse needs of these students, I have gained experience tutoring a wide range of subjects! My main tutoring strengths are centered around mathematics up to basic Calculus and test prep for the ASVAB, PSAT, SAT, ACT, GRE, and LSAT. Equally if not more important, though, is how I work with my students.

When I work with a student, that student has my undivided attention for the duration of our lesson, as I make it my top priority to be engaging and fully focused. I do not tolerate being "off my game", so if I ever feel as though I failed to make great use of lesson time, then I will compensate the student accordingly. I guarantee quality instruction to each of my students and recommend prospective students to take the time to read the many positive reviews I have received over the years.

CANCELLATION POLICY (for in-person lessons - effective as of 09/10/2017):

There are two (2) actions that qualify as student cancellations. They are outlined below - along with their respective consequences:

Action 1 | A student (or other individual representing the student's interest) cancels a scheduled lesson in-between 24 and 2 hours before that scheduled lesson's start time. The consequence is a cancellation fee of $30.

Action 2 | A student (or other individual representing the student's interest) cancels a lesson either between 2 and 0 hours before the scheduled lesson start time or after the scheduled lesson start time. The consequence is the scheduled lesson being billed in full. For example, if a lesson were scheduled to last from 7:00 to 8:30 pm and then a student texted me to cancel anytime after 5:00 pm that same evening, then I would submit the lesson - listing 7:00 pm as the start time and 8:30 pm as the finish time.

LSAT

I scored in the 90th percentile and truly believe that the LSAT is a test on which any test-taker can improve, sometimes drastically. My score was actually toward the low end of where I had been practicing, since after 15 timed prep-tests (actual previously administered LSAT's), my 'high-water mark' was 173. I've tested, reviewed, and occasionally re-tested on hundreds upon hundreds of practice questions... since practice does not make perfect; PERFECT practice makes perfect.

Knowledgeable Tutor with developed own method for LR and RC

Our first lesson went really well. I enjoyed the structure Shane provides including mapping out where to begin step by step. We discussed our tactic moving forward, homework assignment including expectations moving forward, covered the material he asked to be completed before our first lesson, and we went over LR to begin getting into the LSAT material. He is patient and will explain anything little or big you struggle with.

Excellent SAT Tutor

Shane was wonderful with my 16-year-old daughter. They worked to prepare for the math and English SAT. He was always pleasant and patient. He came prepared and gave examples of problems. He was flexible with her sports schedule. She will miss working with him! I highly recommend Shane!

Shane will help you reach your goals!

Shane was a great tutor to get me ready for the LSAT! He took my study goals and plans seriously, and each class I took away many tips and tricks. I loved the fact that he was attentive to my questions and weak areas, and would plan a class to target what I was struggling with. He went above and beyond and provided me with extra study sheets and guides to assist me during the weeks until we would have another session for even extra help. I felt he really cared about my improvements and success. He was also intelligent, organized and professional. He'd often explain hard concepts in a relatable and learnable way. If you are looking for a tutor, Shane is a great pick.

I'm going to love having him as a tutor!

Shane was well prepared for our lesson. He provided homework before our lesson and answered any questions. He was very patient and concise with explanations. Shane taught me logic reasoning and analysis breakdown of logic reasoning. I was able to take a bunch of notes and still follow along with the lessons. He's great!

Very helpful for reading comp. I think it was productive and helped me understand the process of these types of questions better.

Involved and quickly understood my weaknesses

He analyzed my weaknesses on the LSAT and guided me through the sections, making comments on how I need to examine the question to pick the correct answer. First session already helped me. I have set up another session.

Shane G review

Shane arrived promptly at our agreed time and spent his time getting to know my daughter's math level skills. He was able to accomplish that and give me a full report on how we need to proceed with her lessons. My daughter felt comfortable with Shane, so we are looking forward to a successful working relationship with him.
