About Jennifer

I am a certified New Jersey and New York Reading Teacher, currently teaching at a school for students with special needs. I work one-on-one and in small groups with students in all grades and also with a transition program for 18-21 year olds. I create custom reading programs that best fit the needs of each student. I am also a Wilson Reading System certified Instructor. This program focuses on decoding, spelling, vocabulary, sight words, fluency, and comprehension. I received my bachelor's degree in journalism and master's degrees in childhood education and literacy.

I am trained in two Lindamood-Bell programs: Visualizing Verbalizing and Seeing Stars. These programs offer alternative approaches to teaching reading and comprehension.

I have experience with a wide-range of students in terms of age, grade, and ability levels. I can incorporate assistive technology computer programs into instruction which will focus on the needs of your child.

I believe that all students can learn. Teachers need to take the appropriate steps to motivate students, build a rapport, and incorporate various learning styles to instruct in a way which works best for them.

I have experience using a variety of reading assessments which can be used to determine your child's strengths and weaknesses, as well as, monitor their growth in certain areas.

I tutor in all areas of literacy including (but not limited to): reading, decoding, spelling, fluency, intonation, comprehension, listening skills, speaking skills, writing, organization, visualization, making inferences, predicting, analyzing, grammar, mechanics, retelling, summarizing, memory, sight words, phonics, vocabulary, proofreading, editing, etc.

Please contact me for more information, I would be happy to help set up a custom reading and/or writing program for your child!

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
